Were you a good student? I wasn't. Did you have any motivation to study? I didn't and I remember thinking how pointless it all seemed. How do you think your teachers thought about you? I was asked to leave school. I was probably referred to as lazy, even possibly as a 'turd' - I am certain they said all this behind your back because they were so professional.

I was a very good student. I loved school. I was the only student to receive a certificate for never missing a single day of school (perfect attendance grade 1-8).

I arrived from Ecuador at age 6 (first grade) and did not speak a single word of english. By the 8th grade, I represented my school in the national Spelling B and came in 3rd. I was a member of the student council in the 8th grade.

Maybe this is why my wife and I are good teachers and we can pick and choose our students. Maybe this is why I do not have long rants about how China sucks and bosses suck and impossible to teach kids.

Maybe this is why I am not afraid to self disclose about myself because I do not have Fear and shame.

I was never a turd, I am not a turd and I am not a defender of other turds.

Goldie - thanks again for providing more evidence of your selective reading habits

Here it is for ALL to see

Peter, interesting suggestions on philosophy? Maybe. But now 3 pages later and his questions are still not answered. The rest doesn't matter.

This evidence is undeniable - because it is in chronological order.

Again, you were sarcastic to Peter first.

I suggest you apoligize to him immediately since I have just provided 3 different threads where you clearl attacked Peter first.

Now can you let us get back to the topic of this forum - Your expereince teaching english.

I think you made a fool of yourself enough for today. 3rd time Goldie, do you admit it now that you were the first to attack Peter?

Waiting for your reply.

This is why many schools use the Gao Kao or SAT - to eliminate turds. Yes, some good schools do not want turds.

I just addressed that - problem is that you were skimming again and you missed it Again.

Today is a holiday. Why dont you go teach and supervise your kids instead of making a fool of yourself here.

Back to PETS, IELTS or TOEFL. I am sure many people have seen university students who passed the CET or TEM test but they can not speak or write simple english. That is because those tests do not measure all 4 areas of a language.

When a student passes PETS, IELTS or TOEFL, you can be sure that the student has proficiency in all 4 areas of language. It can not be faked or a student can not cram, memorize and pass all 4 parts.

THis is why 1:1 is the best way to go. The kids actually learn. In school a kid needs a 60 to pass. That means 40% of the knowledge is never received or assimilated.

In our house he needs to score a 95+. If not, the lesson is repeated until he learns the information.

In our house we move at Kid speed. Each child determines the speed. Of course, some are faster then others, so we move faster - but again, we look for mastery (95).

See Goldie - Third Time is a charm.

Back to - Your expereince teaching english.

The sad reality is that by the time kids finish the first grade, they already know their place in the food chain (Class).

Schools and classes move at the teachers' speed. Test serve one purpose, to place kids in a box and put a label on them that lasts for the rest of their lives.

After the first grade, most kids realize that no matter what they do, they can never catch up. The machine keeps moving with or without them. Their parents can not help them with homework, they just beat them and call them stupid.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office.
