I really love life here in Kunming and Yunnan. However, one thing that really drives me nuts is -

1 - The people who drive their bikes and scooters into the market, especially during peak hours.

Does the average university student in Kunming speak Mandarin Chinese well?

The answer is no. Most students are lucky if they can get a level 2A on their Mandarin test. Only 3% of those tested in Yunnan can get a level 1B. Less than 1% can get level 1A.

Other than a status symbol, I don't know why people buy cars here in China. Public transportation is great and you can get a bus to just about anywhere. When buses are not convenient, you can find a minivan to take you to any of the out of the way places.

I have been to PZH 6 times over the last 11 years. I visited one time in August and the remaining 5 times were in November and December. Yes, there is a big difference here during these months. The 5 times I went in November and December, I was literally the only person on the boat and I had the entire lake to myself. June to August (Peak) are the worst months to visit. Also, I never buy the ticekts because the price is ridiculous. I have seen the ticket prices increase from 50, to 60, to 100, and finally to 200 Yuan over the years. I really dont think the boat ride is worth 200 Yuan.

10个核心景点中,包括国际会展中心金马坊站文庙翠湖云南大学等

I only see 5 - International Conference Center, Golden Horse Memorial Archway, Confucian Temple, Green Lake, Yunnan University.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
