Forums > Travel Yunnan > Long train ride Of course I care. I am concerned when a mother of 2 children who has been in China for some time needs advice on what food to give her children. As I mentioned earlier, it is crucial that a mother receive as much information and training as possible. I am glad to see that you are getting good advice from other forum members for your 2 day train trip.
I did not reply earlier because I was busy. Today and tomorrow is Gao Kao testing and my wife has kids taking GK tests today.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Long train ride Yes, the nutrition of children age 1 - 7 is very important during the formative years so it is crucial that a mother receive as much information and training from mostly older men concerning this topic. Glad to see that you are vigilent and replied to my post within 3 minutes.

You can go by bus from Kunming and stop at Wuding, Chuxiong (Lion Mountain) this is a good place to see for a few hours and then get back on the bus and go to Tulin. Wuding (Lion Mountain) is the halfway point and it is 94 km (2 hours) northwest of Kunming. The Soil Forest (Tu Lin) includes two separate areas. Wu Mao is where most tourists visit and it is located 40 km north of Yuan Mou. You can rent a minivan to Wu Mao for 60-100 Yuan. Xin Hua is located 60 km west of Yuan Mou and you can rent a minivan for 100-200 YUAN.
Or you can take a bus from Kunming to Chuxiong and then from Chuxiong to Heijing, Chuxiong - www.gokunming.com/[...]
From Heijing you can take the train to Yuan Mou on the following day (1000-1100).
Or you can take the slow train from Kunming to Heijing and then onto Yuan Mou. From Kunming to Heijing is 5 hours by train. It is slow but it is a nice ride (may be crowded because of the holiday).
You have a couple of options depending on your schedule. Bus from Kunming to Yuan Mou is the fastest way to get there. All highway - about 3 hours. NW Bus Station - Puji Road.

China's national meat scandal hits Yunnan
发布者Just yesterday I watched something about this on the bus. The Customs folks stopped and confiscated a few big trucks on the road from Puer. The trucks were not refridgerated so this is one of the cause of the problems. So if the meat did make it in to its final destination it had to be repacked and refrozen after the long trip. Perhaps the meat in the center of the truck can keep but surely not the meat on top or the sides.

Around Town: Zhaozong Reservoir
发布者Since I live on Zhao Zong Road I decided to pay this reservoir a visit via bus #7 which is 2 stops from my home.
The first thing I noticed is that there is plenty of constructuion going on - a new retaining wall is being built as well as a brand new pumping faciltiy with several large pipes to divert the water.
At the time this article was written, this reservoir may have just been a pond but that is no longer the case. "There are no pumping facilities or drains at Zhaozong Reservoir — it is simply a large pond".
The construction workers said that because water is such a precious commodity in Kunming every drop will be put to use in the near future.
Bus #7 to the Zhao Zong Yi Zu Cun Kou Bus Stop. Turn left when you see the Long Hua Temple a few meters before the main entrance to Sen Lin Hu = Forest Lake = 森林湖.
There were at least 20 redundant signs on the walking trail every 10 meters that clearly read - NO SWIMMING!
