I think every service has its turn at being the focus of attention.

How did it turn out? It smells really good. It needs to sit in the fridge for at least two weeks for the flavors to meld. Just in time for Xmas.
Mixed spice recipe.
NB If you cannot get allspice don't worry.
Make up a batch of mixed spice and use 1 and a half teaspoons in the recipe, instead of the listed spices.
Recipe.
1 teaspoon of each ground: cinnamon, cloves, ground ginger, nutmeg.
You will probably need to grind your own cloves. I used a bullet blender. All of the other ground spices I found in Metro.
I also thought it too expensive and have already made my own.
First job was to find a recipe with ingredients I can get locally, and substitute or omit things depending on availability.
Here is the recipe i used
2 large sweet apples, peeled, cored and diced
1 large orange, zested, peeled and diced
1 c raisins
1/2 c chopped almonds
½ c golden raisins
½ c dried apricots, chopped
1/3 c dark brown sugar
¼ c lemon juice
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp allspice (I already had some)
½ c brandy*, (bottom shelf is fine)
1. Put everything EXCEPT the brandy in a medium saucepan, Stir and simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally for 30 minutes.
2. Remove the mixture from the heat. Cool and then stir in the brandy.*
3. Place the mixture in an air-tight container and store in the refrigerator for at least 2 weeks before using, to let the flavors meld.
This will keep in the fridge 2-3 months.
Yes, the subway lines will have made a difference. There was a property survey, in Tokyo, in the late 80s or early 90s that showed a huge jump in property values that were within 500m of a subway station once it opened. Manchester, England, also saw a jump in rents and property prices along the routes of the trams, when they opened.
There are still several subway lines yet to open. I would expect large increases in rent and property prices along these routes as well.
I know of an area in Shanghai, where property prices doubled in 2 years after they opened the metro line.

Getting Away: Shanghai on a shoestring
发布者I lived in Shanghai for a number of years, it is pretty humid all year round. The summer is hot and wet, and yes once you walk out of the door in the morning you know you will be drenched in sweat all day. The winter is cold and damp, with the damp getting into everything, bedding, clothes, even your bones.
Pay in Shanghai is much higher, but you need the extra money just for apartment rents and higher prices for entertainment.
Shanghai is a good place for work, entertainment, shopping, and transportation, but it really is living in the rat race. Shanghai offers a higher standard of living, Kunming by comparison is more relaxed and offers a better quality of life. IMHO.
How to: Cook a Thanksgiving dinner in China
发布者Just in time for Xmas. It is always nice to have some local knowledge about what is, or isn't, available locally for festival type foods.
Register Now! Compulsory Kunming-wide ebike registration ends April 15
发布者I think the advantages for short term rental ebikes are the same as they were for short rental bicycles. With the added advantages of no additional cost charging, and no overnight parking issues (ebikes worse than bikes for this one).
The other advantages for the user, shared by both ebike and bicycle, include: free parking, can park anywhere, you can cross town on the metro and pick up another ride, no concern about theft (a big concern), and I am sure there are others.

发布者The article mentions a campsite. Does anyone have any more information on that?
