'Kama Kazi' looks like a variation of 'kamikaze, the standard English spelling of the Japanese pronunciation of a word that is written, in both Japanese and Chinese, in characters, which of course are not pronounced the same in Chinese as they are in Japanese. Hopefully the Kenyan company does not use the characters of the Japanese word in their advertising, which might well be interpreted in a negative manner in China. Hopefully the company just meant "as work" - and wouldn't that be written in Arabic script? Doesn't Swahili use Arabic script?
A bit much to blame it on the whole country. Not sure how negative the name might seem to Kenyans, none of whom experienced nasty Japanese suicide fighter plane attacks in WWII. Would have been an odd name for a Chinese company - is it just a bad choice of name by a Kenyan company that is trying to do business sending teachers to China, where the name does have negative connotations?
The wha...?
But I think there are many of us. Insults and disparaging remarks are attempts at social interaction - one point of the discussion might be to figure out why so many - yes, many - engage in them with anonymous individuals online. Ideas don't get any better just because they come from people who are not strangers.
What is it to me? I don't think it's much in terms of virtual or faux social interaction, I do social interaction elsewhere. I'm interested in why people do what they do, perceive what they want to. If nobody else is interested, then I guess nobody will write anything here, unless they want to talk about me or themselves or about each other and use this topic - some people seem to use almost any topic - as an excuse to do so. It interests me that people do this - part of the media practice I'm talking about, though I rather wish people would keep it to the likes of facebook or something - true, gossip is not new, but isn't there a lot of it lately?
Those who don't see the point of any of this should perhaps not waste their time talking about it - or, better yet, keep talking and explain why you bother.
