@JanJal
You may want to brush up on your Chinese history.
The law of the land wasn't always red,
ipso facto, let us not trigger any more land mines so as to bring down the house.
@alienew
Not far. We owned a small piece of land near Tienanmen Square worth at least 5 mil many years ago. After several years of legal dispute, less than 100K was compensated.
When it comes to China's road to modernization, there's no stopping that train.
If you know the right people, perhaps compensations may be more generous.
Out of curiosity, at any point have you tried contacting the U.S. Embassy for advocacy assistance?
Is this the same Professor John Israel who studied modern Chinese history at Harvard University?

发布者As an aside, I once bought a paper lantern on a river bank in Xiamen for 10rmb. The seller lent me his light and we lit the lantern. It gradually ascended for a few meters, but the wind carried it into branches of a tree. It got stuck there sideways, and the whole darn thing was set ablaze in the foliage. I turned around and the seller had already vanished. Man he was quick! That was my cue to run away as well.
Moral of the story: Wear sneakers when playing with fire...
also, release the lanterns in an open area.

Turns out Fanfan helped write this article. Please indulge our friend, where can we release red lanterns, Fan?!

发布者Not to be picky Pat, but doesn't "solstice" occur only summers and winters, as sun reaches highest point (longest days) or lowest point (shortest days)?
Tonight is Autumn Equinox ("equal night" in Latin) where night is the same duration as the day. Hence, Spring Equinox or Autumn Equinox.
Regardless, 中秋节快乐 y'all!

发布者Baby steps. It's a long game as Patrick mentioned. First overcome the Myanmar hurdle.
Eventually, China will win over Myanmar's Union Parliament, backing Myanmar military against any U.S. imposed sanctions for alleged human rights abuses of Rohingya Muslims.
His excellency Win Myint will hedge their position against the U.N. by succumbing to the Belt and Road cooperation.
