Just take an outdoor stroll...

Kunming's entire summer has been relatively cool, spared from record heatwaves or humidity plaguing other parts of the world. Thanks in part to the 10-14 degrees Celsius drop due to near 2km highland altitude of its Yungui Plateau (云贵高原).

Locals who seldom travel don't realize how lucky they have it in terms of their spring city clime.

Always miss returning to Kunming when traveling elsewhere.

Don't think one would abandon the country because of a single employer. Reason most likely stems from not adapting to life/work in China, or homesickness.

Testing uncharted waters in finding ideal setting for oneself is common, nothing to fret about. Oftentimes peace of mind is attributed to within, not so much the environment, granted it does factor in somewhat.

Wishing happiness to all those who stay in Kunming, be it transitory or long-term.

Hence, negotiation leverage for Kiwi.

Such violation and reputation tarnish are more substantial for a business entity than for a employee.

Our online communities "do talk" too. We are fond of publicly exposing unfair/unlawful practices.

Kiwi probably hasn't been fully paid for the first month. Otherwise, our friend would already be on the first flight back home (New Zealand?).

Best holster the big guns for now. Sit down with the employer and pass the peace pipe.

First, find out how much language schools spend on Visa applications for employees. You might consider absorbing that fee.

This the inevitable path of modern China of 69 years young. From farming & low-cost manufacturing to cutting edge A.I., stem cell, quantum computing, and space race research.

In contrast, here's an aerial view of current Dongfeng Square taken just a few weeks ago:

Here's another zoomed out view from three months ago, when digging was less extensive:

The excavation process for this 407 meter "Eye of Mordor" look-alike is mind-boggling. For those who've visited Taipei 101's outdoor observation deck, it's height is only 390 meters. The long spire (antennae) on top is misleading.

Many more in-depth pictures of what was once our Dongfeng Square is continuously updated by user "oscillation" if you're interested:

Fond memories of Dongfeng Square and the Worker's Cultural Palace, as seen in the above picture. When I first arrived here, it was a delight to see so many strangers holding hands dancing in a big circle there. It was new to me.

This now empty lot will become the tallest skyscraper in Kunming with 100 floors (407 meters), That's nearly one third higher than our current tallest Wanda finance buildings (317 meters).

The two new towers will be called Eye of Spring Trade Center (aka Dongfeng Plaza) upon completion in 2 or 3 years.

Across from Dongfeng Plaza, behind Gingko Department Store where Kunming Municipal People's Government was previously situated, Spring City 66 tower is already visible in the skyline...

A shabby 63-storey (349 meters) skyscraper in comparison, but already taller than Kunming's reigning champion Wanda twin towers. The massive shopping center mall below will house over 300 international brands next year. KRT subway 1, 2, 3, & 6 will connect below it. Wow, location x 3!

Cycling from Kunming to Singapore, that's quite a ride!

May I inquire about their journey? Did they make it to Singapore? Still had 850km to go. I'm having difficulties accessing Jesse's blog.
