Magnifico, spot on, but the thing is that most allocation strategies are based on an investor profile, which is based on assumptions, a major one of which is that the investor will live in his home country. This is called "home bias".

Which baskets are the right ones? If we follow the typical US investors pattern, those who live in China should weight 73% of their equity assets to domestic (=Chinese) stocks, and ALL of their fixed income assets should be in CNY.

Hi again, I think the pro's don't know, and the products available are AT BEST simple hedges at high rates (6% in hidden hedging costs, last time I checked) . A "product for expats" means what? Does it consider the persons need for CNY specifically? Please link me an example of such a product..being able to convert one product to another is hardly a benefit.. It's the ability to convert a product into cash that counts.

For those expats who consider themselves settled in china, yet still having a securities account back home and expecting to live off it now or in the future: what are you doing, do you take into consideration the fact that you live abroad when allocating your stocks/funds/whatever?

I'm interested in this because looking back 10years, a euro could buy you 11RMB, now 8. All currencies and markets swing over time, but if you get two or 3 "bad" swings in a row, you could be out. And you don't need to be invested in speculative stocks to make a +/- 50%, just being in the wrong currency is enough. So even if it looks like it's going up in USA or whatever is your home currency, it could be completely different in CNY. Thoughts plz...

For the record, Wizardsgsroup in Philippines replied to my enquiry, and quoted GREAT prices. 3 days of advanced sql, including certification, for 21500PHP. Thats about 1/6th of the price for the same thing in Europe.

So what do y'all think are the chances of Britain benefitting from these events? What works for/against them? Certainly looks like the Great Britain events are being boycotted by the local britons...seems to me a bad sign if they cant even try to build relations with their own landsmen and women.

Well if it tastes good and might even do you some good, why not? The soup in the picture looks pretty tasty to me.

About tcm vs western drugs. Have any of you seen the VOLUME of tcm drugs people get? People are literally filling shopping bags at the tcm pharmacies.

As for western meds - i saw a docu which showed that for several drugs, the capsule itself was more beneficial tjan the actual drug inside :) Point 2 about western drugs: theres up to 6000% difference between the cost to produce and the price on the shelf. Whacked out.

Excellent. Everything you want is here, almost..new and used. Plenty of curiosity items, nostalgia, fakes, practical household items, bikes and e-bikes, tools, clothing, furniture etc. I was looking for a cheap portable DVD player but though there were plenty available, they were at best "last years model" ie too bulky.
Easy to spend a half day here, i dont feel like i got treated as a rich laowai i.e. first prices quoted were not outlandish, and the only problem was a lack of food options. Also - little or no putonghua here.

I disagree with the article on two points: 1. Its very taxi-friendly, or at least not worse than anyplace else i've been. Lots of empty taxis pass by (if you walk to the road, of course) 2.i thought it very easy to find and is on google maps.

Hm ok banning cars won't work. How about a toll? Many countries and cities have done it - and by the way a discount for eco-friendly cars.

Friendly staff and good service, food and prices are ok. No complaints but its nothing special either, and not worth a visit unless you live closeby.

Nice atmosphere and cosy but the western food is bad. I think they deep-fry the burgers. As a cafe - 4 stars (service is a little bit lacking at times), coffee and cakes etc are good. As a restaurant, 2 stars (western food is too bad, asian food is mamahuhu).

"All the Meat" only had about 3 slices of salami on it, so maybe i got the wrong order. Anyway, leaving that aside - soggy bread, ketchup as tomatosauce, and cheese was probably from a tube.
Potato wedges soggy as well.
I left half my meal, the only thing up to scratch was the coke and the service. Will not be back.

If the name of the shop is written in english then they should speak english, yes! A pokey shithole trying to give the impression of a quaint li'l ole bookshop. Pig-ignorant staff, never been greeted with a smile there, nor even greeted. If you must shop here, bring your own bag. 1 star earned for selection and the (for me) convenient location.
