Forums > Living in Kunming > Leaving Kunming? After living in China for 6 years decided was time to begin moving back to USA. Realized i was never going to be able to communicate easily. Have age related health issues, which minor now, could be much larger problem in future, with many treatment options in USA and none here.
Forums > Food & Drink > Price and salary development Seems like commercial rentals have not come down or even increased the past 5 years, but personally having lived outside the 2nd ring road my rent the past year was less than 5 years ago. Home i rented 5 years ago was 3,500 rmb and i rented this past year for 2,500.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Dry and High Kunming One of the most painful and long term side affects of dehydration missed by Long-Dragon can be Kidney Stones. Denver has the highest rate of kidney stones in the USA, and i was told 5 years ago while being treated for a kidney stone in a Kunming hospital, that Kunming is the highest in China. Doctor told me Kunming has a higher rate because of dry climate part of year and elevation. If you have never had a kidney stone, for sure an experience to avoid. Lastly the 5 years i lived in Kunming i found to be the most challenging to stay hydrated. Did not seem to matter how much i drank i still always was on the edge of being de-hydrated. I am living in a climate which has higher temps and very humid but having a much easier time staying hydrated.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Am I really in a place that bad? I think 1 year was the most common 5-6 years ago, but as they have built massive complexes everywhere in Kunming, has forced landlords to negotiate rents and payment terms. Last 2 rentals i had we paid 6 months at a time. Before that 1 year and was not a topic for discussion.
How bad is Kunming's air?
发布者Last person you ever would want to ask for accurate data reports would be anyone who is in anyway associated with chinese government agencies. Look at the difference between US Embassy readings and Chinese readings in the past. I have lived in a USA city which had excessive air inversion for several days and ratings spiked at 75-100 and i can tell you the air was nothing close to as bad as it has been here for the past several months. You could see the haze in the distance but nothing like here when you can see a pronounced haze sometimes in just a few block area.
Flying Tigers memorial opening tomorrow

Beijing Lu road construction to last nine more months
发布者Actually i feel bad for anyone living near Bejing Lu if like Longquan road project they have no regards for sleeping and are jack hammering old road all night, trucks and dust will be even worse than normal during the entire project.
Beijing Lu road construction to last nine more months
发布者Wonderful, if like all other projects the nice new bike lane the first day will be filled with cabs, parked cars, vendors, scooters going the wrong way, and for some reason all the people that do not like walking on the sidewalks, but would rather clog up the bike lane and or street. Hopefully subway construction is done so after completing the new street do not end up ripping it up again. That is a lot to expect or ask for here i thinks.
Flying Tigers memorial opening tomorrow
发布者Visited this museum a few weeks ago. Downstairs was little disappointing as its a series of paintings depicting the history of the Flying Tigers. The upstairs i thought was very well done with a lot of original artifacts. Was for sure worth 2-3 hours to see everything.
