Forums > Living in Kunming > Mac Laptop Repairs in Kunming?

I am looking for a new battery for a 2011 MacBook Pro 15".

I see them advertised on JinDong and Taobao but I don't want to buy bad quality.

Does anyone know of a reputable Mac repair place in Kunming?
I just need a new battery.
Thanks

Well they only just opened so I wouldn't be too hard on them until they start getting things in order.

Give them some slack!!! it's their first week open...
they're nice people.

I think that the dough is way too thin, nothing like the NY little Italy pizza I remember... I prefer thicker crusts and dough. Does sound expensive!

Thanks for the update I had no idea Bank of America has changed their policy. I only used them when I first came here 2 years ago. Now I've got enough cash that I don't have to pull money from the US but the real problem is when you want to send money to the US!

I have not found an easy way to do that. Does anyone know of any inexpensive ways to convert rmb to $ and send to the US? Wire transfers are expensive and a terrible hassle so pls don't recommend them.

Bank of China will only change $500 worth of Rmb into dollars at one time. HOWEVER, if u go to different Bank of China branches they don't communicate with each other so you can get $500 at each branch on the same day.

It's a terrible hassle and then you have to carry a lot of cash with you. I wish there were an inexpensive way to send $ to the US. if there is a bank in the US that corresponds with a good bank in China and doesn't charge huge transaction fees I'd be interested to learn about it. Thank you

If you have a Bank of America account you can open an account at China Construction Bank and use your B of A account to withdraw funds from your checking account with the lowest fee: 1% on the current exchange rate. They charge the same rate at Bank of China to change US$ to rmb so you really can't beat that rate.

As far as I know it doesn't get any better than that. It's the only bank I know that does that.

I hate Wire Transfers. They usually charge a minimum $30. Go with the B of A and CCB. You may be able to transfer funds directly from Chase to your BofA account for no fees.

Yes I do all of my banking online and pay bills in the US from my US bank.

Plan on getting a VPN if you want Facebook NYTimes or Bloomberg and many other websites.

I recommend pandapow. Google it.

It's really hard to judge this project without many specific details. Huge projects like this require elaborate studies for the many different engineering and economic challenges as well as the potential risks vs. benefits, not to mention the dangers to the environment. (alas I fear the latter is given the lowest priority)

Evaluation of the effects of the loss of the water to existing waterways and adjacent lands is an enormous task.

Then there is always the very good chance that after years of planning, design and with construction underway, a substantial change in weather patterns could bring vast quantities of rain, filling up the now dry reservoirs and making the project obsolete.

Who can say what the future holds for us? With all the uncertainties of global climate change it may be a smart move... or not....

The projected demand for clean potable water has been predicted for many years to be the most important single requirement facing the world. However waste continues to exacerbate all of these problems.

California wastes huge amounts of water in agriculture and continues to do so! Water wars started there over a century ago!

The Israelis have developed the most sophisticated and most efficient drip irrigation systems in the world. Their state of the art technologies grow high quality foods in arid climes.

I think the billions could be spent more effectively by educating farmers to use more efficient watering systems, increasing yields and reducing pollution. You can buy an awful lot of drip irrigation plastic pipe for very little money.

But I don't know much about growing rice which seems to be very water intensive... There has to be a way to develop a wholistic approach to solve this problem without creating new ones.

Lots of people are against this new plant.

I was told yesterday by an administrator at a large local university that all students were prohibited from going to that protest on May 16th.

The same person also stated they were in support of it. That seems to be the general consensus that I have heard. There is much more opposition to the opening of this plant than can be seen at any protest.

Great article! Thanks very much.
What about hotel prices? Can you give a range? I'd be looking for least expensive but clean and quiet outweigh everything else except near the beach.

How about the price for the transport from Bangkok to the island?

Thanks again. You do great work!

Slice of Heaven has some nice food, its very clean and comfortable and the staff try very hard to please. I can understand Barbara is trying to run a business and it's her right to set the pricing. A large pizza for 20 quai was a bargain for sure. Obviously it was not a money maker without other sales. Anyone can be brisk from time to time but generally I think it's a good place.

I don't drink alcohol at all and was surprised that the place was 1/2 empty on a Friday night. The change in policy reflects a decent establishment trying to stay in business. We should support this nice little respite.
