Crazy Laowai, you might look for the different kinds of stir-fried insects. Bee grub and bamboo worms are crunchy, perhaps like cheese doodles but healthier. I had dragonfly larvae, dipped in hot oil, then served. Not bad at all — they had a delicate flavor that I can' t describe.
Probably these are more common in Dai restaurants, but found elsewhere, too.
I've had a good experience with the "Stomatology Hospital" (i.e., Dental Hospital) of the Kunming Medical School on Renmin Lu. At least one dentist had good English. I know the Medical School has English classes for it's students.

I've been drinking Beer Lao and coffee here, off and on for some years.
It's always a pleasant place to relax. The food is good as well. Close to cheap hotels and bike rental on Manting Lu, too.

Has anyone tried cacao in Banna?
City cracks down on illegal vendors
发布者"Is the living they are trying to make as honest as the people who pay rent ... ?"
Yes. There ought to be more small shi chang and night markets, not less.
Kunming to add 400 new taxis by year's end
发布者I wish they were all electric cars.
City cracks down on illegal vendors
发布者"When you are done, pack your shit and head back to the US of A ssholes....."
Pretty much what I think of the anti-vendor, everyone-must-have-a-license-to-breathe sorts.
