Hi Blobbles it appears that the guys that stopped the sexual assault from getting worse then attacked (seriously enough for the police to take him to hospital later) the English guy didn't know him. In many countries the police would charged both the English guy for the sexual assault AND the people who later attacked him for some form of assault.

Its nice to remember that in China the police can put you in detention for basically as long as they want before they charge you.

Kunming brought out new scooter laws this year making the majority of the scooters you see on the street now illegal to register. If you want a bigger scooter that can take you around town at speeds over 15km/h I would buy a second hand scooter.

Where you are staying is outside of the area that petrol Mbikes are banned, so you could buy a petrol Mbike.

If the procedure is a common one I would say a Chinese doctor would have done it many times more than a western doctor with the same work years. Hygiene and the absolute no responsibilty taken by the hospital are the main things to consider.

I was in Qingdao last week, its a popular tourist destination, with a very hilly layout in some ways similar to Kunming, but not only is Qingdao much easier than Kunming to get a taxi, with much better traffic speed, this northern "mountain city" is also building a subway system,,,but unlike Kunming the local government has requested that the construction does not effect traffic, so all construction is being done off to the side of roads.

According to one taxi driver the impact on the every day life of Qingdao citizens is so minimal that many locals dont even know a subway is being built!,,

It is really very interesting to see how different cities in China are managed.

But it was bloody freezing,,something Kunming has under control!

For Europe I would say it will most likely be Amsterdam over London or Paris as there are quite a lot of Dutch companies here,,Plus KLM already has the rights for passenger flights KM to Holland, currently KLM is already flying direct to Chengdu from Holland.

Its the norm in China when officials are being introduced or presented for a position that the media give all information, name, ethnic group, sex (especially if its a female), place of birth etc

when we renovated we took our workmen to B&Q to select materials from their excellent range if samples. Then with that list in hand we went to the construction market near Mingbo bridge and got the same materials at either half or one third of the B&Q price.

It's a good place for window shopping.
