Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming vs Guilin

In terms of air quality the two cities are comparable, weather tends to be milder in Kunming - Guilin can get quite hot and is also rather humid, Guilin wins a close one in terms of natural beauty, and both places have a relatively relaxed way of life.

Not sure about the job market in Guilin, as far as I know the economy is focused on tourism and pharmaceuticals. There are probably plenty of teaching gigs but I'm not sure about other types of work.

There are definitely taiji and qigong study options here in Kunming, but there should be a few in every relatively large city.

I would say depending on what kind of person you are, Kunming, Nanning and Chengdu are the most liveable cities in southwest China.

Good luck,

Chris

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Dali,, which bus station?

Go out the east gate of Think UK to Kunrui Lu/Dianmian Dadao, cross the street and walk a few hundred meters south (right) and you will be in front of Xizhan Passenger Station, where there are loads of buses to Dali, Lijiang, Zhongdian, even Luang Prabang, Laos. Dali buses are 120 yuan, I believe.

Four stars for a great restaurant with friendly staff.

I give Tusheng Shiguan a fifth star for its goal of promoting environmentally sound food production.

My favorite Tengchong-style restaurant in Kunming. Their ersi and erkuai are trucked over from Tengchong and are the real deal — Kunming ersi and erkuai do not compare.

The restaurant itself is a bit jumbled, but there are a couple of tables outside in the courtyard that are nice to sit at when the weather's pleasant.

Don't believe them when they say they don't have lufu.

Tom and Jiajia have been baking up a storm lately. Thanks to them I have delicious sourdough bread to toast on the space heater in the office.

The Bircher muesli is probably the healthiest and most delicious breakfast around.

Pound for pound, one of the best little Western restaurants in China. 佳佳万岁

Just had gnocchi in mushroom sauce and a glass of wine for dinner on the balcony in mid-January. Awesome.
