Why worry about all this stuff?

Alien: How do you get from get from a murderous attack in France to the subject of press ownership in the US?
What does ownership media in the US have to do with dead bodies in France?
If you are worried about foreign news reports about China and are attempting to link them to media ownership, talk to HFCAMPO.
BTW who owns the media in China?
State censorship is not a really good topic in China. The Chinese government does what it does in order to maintain harmony which is entirely consistent with it's ideology.
There is a bit to do with Kunming. Remember the splitist murderous attack at the train station last year. There is, albeit tenuous, link. Other than that it is just news.
@laofengzi: Where did aI accuse you of attacking me? IF you think you are worth anybody's time to attack, good for you. I did point out you didn't have the balls to direct a cheap shot at anyone. I believe that was a flame rather than trolling.
What is golden is the abundant diarrhea you spew and your pride
in it.
I find it extremely interesting that the two persons I have actually met and talked to face to face have been called out as trolls. I have impressions of both of these men based on what they post, how they think from what they write and looking them in the eye. My opinion, judgment is you will, is based on my life experiences. The experiences run from being a farm worker to corporate officer, from being freedom rider to being a combat soldier and mercenary, from being a violent warrior to a hater of war, from leading small groups of dedicated professionals to managing hundreds diverse people in a corporation, from being a student to being a professor. In over seventy years of living and working, I have concluded I really don't know shit.
I find I have relied on two skills; first being open to other peoples' good ideas and using those ideas, and, second being good at reading people.
HFCAMPO is a good man. Hugo is helpful and sharing. He is opinionated and uncompromising. He has high standards and is committed to them. He is also intelligent and passionate about what he believes. He sees a lot of bright lines and will hold to his perception of what is right, good or proper. As befitting a Marine, he suffers fools and idiots little. If he calls you friend you do have a friend. I'd like to think I share some of these characteristics. Hugo is into nutty conspiracies and his politics are very different than mine. However, he is worth my trust and as a grunt, I would follow him.
On the other hand, neddy, and all his previous incarnations, do not, to me, do not give the impression of sincerity. Talking with him face to face left me the impression of a man that was arrogant and deceitful, more intent on creating a façade than being real. He introduced himself as Matt Miller, denied he was crazylaowai and said his screen name would be tommann. I am sorry Matt, but, maybe it is just me, my first, and subsequently confirmed, impression was of a bullshitter. Matt has morphed from being a victim of to being a champion of all things Chinese.
Matt represents himself as an authority on wine and cuisine but destroys his authority by failing to understand that neither "good," nor, "like," nor, "subjective" are terms with diverse and individual connotations. He simplifies the discourse into just two points of view; his and those who disagree with him. No one else is allowed to have any validity if they fail to subscribe to the Matt Miller point of view. Matt's drum beats the same no matter what the subject. I call Matt, in all his identities "troll" because I am confident he is a lot more intelligent than he lets on. He likes to throw bombs just to get reaction. I think he counts coup by the number of responses his asinine generate. Matt seems to be a narcissistic person. He seeks not approbation nor disapprobation, not approval nor disapproval but attention. Any response, negative or positive, feeds his need. That is okay. Matt can be who and what he wants. From NOLA to SLC, Matt is Matt.

Good for quality, but pricey, hand tools.
Be aware they will push whatever they are selling. Some of the staff have no idea about the technical side of appliances.
I went there to buy a stove. I repeatedly told them I would be using bottled gas. They sold me a stove. When I went to my local gas guy, I learned there are at least three kinds of gas sold. Luckily, B&Q did not deliver as promised. I went back to the store and discovered they had sold me a stove they needed to be hooked up to the gas main. I got my money back.
The sales lady was almost in tears, 没有问题!I don't know if it a safety or design issue, but I would think B&Q would know and care.
Last week had an 8:45am flight.
Subway starts at 9am. I have no idea where to catch an airport express bus. Eight taxis refused to go to the airport. After almost an hour standing on Beijing Lu took a black taxi, this dude drives slower than my mother, 120 yuan.
Flight back was delayed so I learned the subway stops running at 6:10pm.
Getting a taxi back was easy, more taxis than customers. Taxi was 87 yuan including 1o yuan toll, airport to Beichen area. Yes, he took a longer route than necessary.
Kunming imagines being a gateway for international travelers. New airport but hard to get to and from it.
World Class Airport, NOT!
Tonight "Peacock", a performance by Yang Liping (杨丽萍), to begin her world tour, 8pm, 100-1680 yuan at Yunna Haigeng Auditorium.
Saw this lady perform at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, in California, in 1995. Quite a good and interesting show.
I'm going to try to make it.
Not so good. Kimchi had a very sour taste. Other food was nothing to brag about. I don't think I would go back.
This bus station is not located as indicated. It is further North!
First-hand account: Setting up a guesthouse in Xishuangbanna
发布者The hotel did not open. Although I do not know why, I do know the project was abandoned.
Getting Away: Vang Vieng
发布者Vang Vieng is a great place. I stay at the Elephant Crossing hotel. Quite nice but $45USD a night. A bit steep for the backpackers and consumers of 'magic" goods. So it is pretty quiet.
Rooms face the river and Karst formations. Clouds and wisps of clouds in and around the Karst mountains provide a constantly changing view.
Vang Vieng is my favorite sit-and-do-nothing place on Laos.

Kunming's etymological vapor trail
发布者bluppfisk is right. Calibre is really good and easy to use. I have found making your own original ebooks for the kindle fairly easy. I do it this way: Word -> RTF -> MOBI. PDF docs can be converted as well but it depends on how the PDF doc was created. Color photos can look sad on the kindle so they are best converted to BW first.
Kunming's etymological vapor trail
发布者Walter, got mine from Kindle. Project Gutenberg has a version with illustrations.
Actually, Project Gutenberg has more than 200 FREE downloads on China. Many of these are in Chinese, 汉字。
Any .mobi ebook will work on a Kindle or Kindle for PC or Mac.
