Here is the Kunming address I had the best luck with:

Jiang Dong Si Ji Gong Yu, Apt 1708
Beijing Lu, Panlong District, 650224
Kunming, Yunnan, P.R. China
————————————————————————

650224
中国云南省昆明市盘龙区北京路江东四季公寓1708
电话:18669888888

Stuff was sent US mail and took about two weeks. The English was to get it going in the right direction. The Chinese address in Hanzi is correct with a phone number. Customs will call if necessary. These days you get a US tracking number but it was useless in China

I gave up on FEDEX as it was left in the university mail room with a few hundred other FEDEX packages in a big pile.

Really surprised about metro restrictions for carryon stuff. Airport security people are well trained and work in teams but not sure about metro and bus station Nazi wannabes. At least you can turn around and walk away and catch a taxi.

Some flying rules I have run into:

You can carry ONE cigarette lighter on your person. It cannot be in your carryon luggage.

There are restrictions on lithium batteries as well: size, number, and total watt or amp hours. In the US there are regulations but each airline has its own rules. I can, for example, fly with my power chair on Delta but not United.

Multiple spare lithium batteries for cameras and battery banks can be a problem.

Other items prohibited: tent pegs, badminton racquets, fishing rods, and tools.

Another link in the 大哥 chain.

With the popularity and convenience of using plastic, spending habits are preserved for analysis. POS systems used by retailers and traders provide even more detail.

Brainwave monitoring is a new twist adding emotional surveillance to the tool bag of control.

www.businessinsider.com/[...]

大哥 can monitor internet activity and can know how money is being spent. Now 大哥 can create a collective picture of emotional responses.

Gives new meaning to "keep it under your hat."

Glad to hear of the success of last year' effort. I am really proud to be a part of Kunming's Expat community.

But the job is not done. Next Sunday we have a chance to dig a little deeper and help this kid. Let's Do It!

A good move. Now the question is: will the appropriate propaganda departments make sure the word gets out?

China actually have fairly decent labor laws. Unfortunately, they are observed and enforced less than traffic laws.

@Ocean,

Not to worry. Your English is a lot better, and more coherent, than many self professed English teachers posting on this site. At least you spell, punctuate and capitalize normally.

I notice the "So" is becoming an over used sentence opener, both written and spoken. So cuz u dont and tigertiger don't so everything I guess it isn't being taught that so should be used repeatedly. So kinda makes me think of Valley Girl talk which became the in thing in the 1970s. So do you teach using rising inflection to end each sentence? So like second tone. :-)

May 5th is Lunar calendar. I think that converts to June 12 in Julian calendar in 2013, but I am not sure. Check it,

Good for quality, but pricey, hand tools.

Be aware they will push whatever they are selling. Some of the staff have no idea about the technical side of appliances.

I went there to buy a stove. I repeatedly told them I would be using bottled gas. They sold me a stove. When I went to my local gas guy, I learned there are at least three kinds of gas sold. Luckily, B&Q did not deliver as promised. I went back to the store and discovered they had sold me a stove they needed to be hooked up to the gas main. I got my money back.

The sales lady was almost in tears, 没有问题!I don't know if it a safety or design issue, but I would think B&Q would know and care.

Last week had an 8:45am flight.

Subway starts at 9am. I have no idea where to catch an airport express bus. Eight taxis refused to go to the airport. After almost an hour standing on Beijing Lu took a black taxi, this dude drives slower than my mother, 120 yuan.

Flight back was delayed so I learned the subway stops running at 6:10pm.

Getting a taxi back was easy, more taxis than customers. Taxi was 87 yuan including 1o yuan toll, airport to Beichen area. Yes, he took a longer route than necessary.

Kunming imagines being a gateway for international travelers. New airport but hard to get to and from it.

World Class Airport, NOT!

Tonight "Peacock", a performance by Yang Liping (杨丽萍), to begin her world tour, 8pm, 100-1680 yuan at Yunna Haigeng Auditorium.

Saw this lady perform at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, in California, in 1995. Quite a good and interesting show.

I'm going to try to make it.

Not so good. Kimchi had a very sour taste. Other food was nothing to brag about. I don't think I would go back.
