To me, this statement "behavior modification is the true danger of psychological censorship" misses the point.

One of the goals of censorship IS precisely behavior modification.

Note these words and phrases:

consensus

23 percent were concerned

32 percent thought

60 percent of people don’t believe

None of these reflect science.

There was a time when the consensus was and the majority belief was that the earth is flat and the sun and moon revolved around the earth.

When ignorant persons give medical advice, or use opinion aggregates, to support dubious uninformed

medical claims, they are endangering lives.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Proposed IIT Reform

"Is this a good idea or a bad idea?" Kind of a dumb question. It is a change in China's tax law which must be complied with. This reform is entirely within the right and power of China's government to effect.

A wise man once told me, "In China never ask 'Why'" In China laws are laws and rules are rules the 'why' is less important than understanding and compliance.

This IIT Reform is the first major change in 38 years with many changes that affect both Chinese and foreigners. There are hundreds of 'whys'.

My first reaction was that the importation and breeding of rhinos was going to be a big payoff for someone. Breed a few then, oops, a mature rhino dies. Quickly burn or burn the carcass sans the horn. Rhino horn goes for $60,000 USD per kgm or more.

"released into the wild" indeed. In this case the "wild" is the world's largest market for rhino horn and the reason so few rhinos are left.

Tacky. In Beijing they history and culture. I guess some tacky is needed somewhere.

Actually, I'm looking forward to trying to photograph imagines on water, then go home.

Actually, murder may not be the correct word. Homicide, is a broad covering the taking of a life with murder a subset of homicide. When the homicide involves robbery, Chinese law does not classify this kind of homicide as murder. In the West, the definition of murder tends to be broader than the Chinese definition.

I found it difficult to parse Chinese homicides, such as those described above into the Western equivalent of murder. Any comparison of Western and Chinese murder rates based on official statistics needs some SWAG to be accurate. Of course, my SWAG is better than your SWAG. :-)

From the little I know of Chinese law, the above killings would not be classified as murder due to main intent being robbery and the killings a secondary factor. So it is, under Chinese law it is, "Two teenagers decided to rob people for their money and also killed them."

If I am wrong, I would enjoy hearing from a competent authority.

Good for quality, but pricey, hand tools.

Be aware they will push whatever they are selling. Some of the staff have no idea about the technical side of appliances.

I went there to buy a stove. I repeatedly told them I would be using bottled gas. They sold me a stove. When I went to my local gas guy, I learned there are at least three kinds of gas sold. Luckily, B&Q did not deliver as promised. I went back to the store and discovered they had sold me a stove they needed to be hooked up to the gas main. I got my money back.

The sales lady was almost in tears, 没有问题!I don't know if it a safety or design issue, but I would think B&Q would know and care.

Last week had an 8:45am flight.

Subway starts at 9am. I have no idea where to catch an airport express bus. Eight taxis refused to go to the airport. After almost an hour standing on Beijing Lu took a black taxi, this dude drives slower than my mother, 120 yuan.

Flight back was delayed so I learned the subway stops running at 6:10pm.

Getting a taxi back was easy, more taxis than customers. Taxi was 87 yuan including 1o yuan toll, airport to Beichen area. Yes, he took a longer route than necessary.

Kunming imagines being a gateway for international travelers. New airport but hard to get to and from it.

World Class Airport, NOT!

Tonight "Peacock", a performance by Yang Liping (杨丽萍), to begin her world tour, 8pm, 100-1680 yuan at Yunna Haigeng Auditorium.

Saw this lady perform at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, in California, in 1995. Quite a good and interesting show.

I'm going to try to make it.

Not so good. Kimchi had a very sour taste. Other food was nothing to brag about. I don't think I would go back.
