Forums > Food & Drink > Reviews getting removed?

I was thinking of the one on WenLingJie, with the open balcony on the top. Closed a few months ago. I'm sure the replacement is called No.57 (it may be another number...!)

@bobbles is right - something I've moaned about before to the GoK guys. My fault on the No.57 review, @mPRin as your answer to my query meant your previous review was overwritten. Apologies.

Incidentally, is there another branch of "No.57" where Teresa's used to be. I'm sure that was the name on the new cafe there...?

Forums > Living in Kunming > Water Rationing

As mentioned on another thread, some of our recent problems were due to the neighbourhood having its water cut off overnight so that it didn't freeze and burst pipes. Is it maybe worth checking that out?

Forums > Study > Need help choosing a Chinese/Mandarin school

Mei's Mandarin has a lot of satisfied students. Two minutes walk from WenLingJie. I work for Robert's School, the English language side of the school, so I'm not totally impartial, but I do know a lot of foreign students there and they seem very happy with the set-up, so worth a look.

Saw a couple of Chengguan officers hassling some poor guy selling freshly made popcorn yesteday (with a sizeable queue waiting to buy it) whilst behind them 100+ middle-class teenagers were blocking up WenLingJie with their illegal back-of-the-car nonsense. Double standards?

Has anyone noticed any beauty yet? I see roads that have been broken for years left broken. I see perfectly OK kerbstones ripped up and different kerbstones laid down again. Are any roads getting bigger or smaller? I see no new trees? Has anywhere finished being beautified yet?

Needless to say the "24 hour running water" promise lasted ...24 hours! We've been back to an hour a day ever since. Can't trust anybody in this town...

Price is now 100RMB for adults, 70RMB for children.
Some of the animal areas are as far as 10+km from the entrance - you can buy a hop on/off bus ticket for 60RMB per person, but there are also clearly marked walkways for those who are full of energy.

Everything inside is pretty expensive - consider bringing a picnic.

Many of the animals are in large outdoor enclosures. Some are caged. The park calls itself a safari, but this is not a "drive your car amongst the animals" thing. It's more like a decent western zoo.
There are places to handle/be photographed with animals, for a fee. Also, some kids amusements.
The animal show is free, but a waste of time (unless you love watching goats, sheep, pigs, horses etc!!).
Good labelling i English thorughout.

Still worth a visit, especially for the arhat statues. The 11am vegetarian lunch is basic, but still only 10RMB. Free entry.

Prague cafe used to be my favourite cafe in Wenlin area but I went for lunch there today after a few months away and it's really gone downhill (new owners?). The menu was a photocopy, the food was lacklustre and much more expensive than before, the decor was dull and the service so-so. I won't be back there anytime soon.

It's open! And it's free. And its terrific for kids.

The museum is surprisingly interactive (although only 2/3 of the attractions are working) and modern (VR, simulators, touchscreens, etc). Sadly, no English on any of the displays but the fun is in trying to work out how the exhibits work and what they are supposed to be showing. Well worth a visit.
