What's the weirdest/funniest name you've come across in China?
I'd have to go with Spock. A foreign teacher taught him to say "Live long and prosper". The poor kid actually looks a bit like Leonard Nimoy AND has a unibrow.

I am currently teaching Spock. It is pretty uncanny how much he actually resembles the character from Star Trek. And he still says, "Live long and prosper" while giving Spock's trademarked hand gesture. Luckily, as far as I know, he has yet to master the dreaded "Vulcan death grip."

My wife worked with 3 girls in an office who were named, respectively, "Ice", "Lemon" and "Tea". They were unaware that any connection could be made between their names.

Sorry ... pressed the wrong key!
I once had a student whose name was Jun who, typically, asked me to give her a European name - when I immediately suggested June, her expression was blank and following further explanation, she smiled ... but I'm sure that she's still wondering about it.
Her fellow student named himself Viper, I let him keep it. ;-)
It's an interesting subject.

How about we discuss some of the equally moronic Chinese "names" that some of the foreigners around here tote.
