@Bubbler You should try Alipay, the new service they announced seems to be a real workaround that already works.
from rapidtravelchai.boardingarea.com/alipay-tour-pass/
"- Exchange rate is close to interbank rate (a 500 RMB load today shows as US$71.15, XE’s rate list $71.42)
- No transaction fee to December 31, 2019, BUT the terms say the fee going forward will be a steep 5%"
from www.scmp.com/[...]
"Tour Pass doesn’t give foreign users access to all of Alipay’s functions. Alipay told us that Tour Pass users can’t transfer their Tour Pass money to other Alipay users. So splitting a dinner bill with friends could still be a hassle."
WeChat doesn't seem to work yet:
from www.travelchinacheaper.com/foreign-credit-card-wechat-pay
"So what’s to say it’s going to work this time? Well, for one, both MasterCard and Visa have made announcements about the upcoming partnership, which is a good sign."

Looks like it's moving again to another location: passed by there yesterday and people were selling stuff in the streets but not in the market anymore. Some security guy told me it was moving to some place near the train station...

The address and the map was updated
these are for rent... great bikes by the way, got one for a 4-day trip and it was perfect!
happy I found this place. It should be on the listing map, I would have found it sooner!
Not only a vegetarian restaurant, it's organic food as well. And they got a shop for organic products as well.

Update: Kunming Metro Line 3 open as of August 29
Posted byThere's a more official map on the "Kunming Rail Transit Group" website: www.kmgdgs.com/node_46459.htm
(It's flash, doesn't work on most phones)
@Dan: looks like Line 1 will follow Jianshe Lu actually, with a stop at the crossing with 121, not really Xizhan.
@bilingualexpat: must be a mistake on that map. The 2 stops on Line 5 are called 翠湖 and 胜利堂. I'm guessing Shenglitang will be on Renmin Zhong Lu though, not like on the map.
Kunming to put 45,000 public use bikes on roads
Posted byThe bike stations (or "depots") from the article are being built, I saw one by Green Lake.
The municipal government bikes are red: news.yntv.cn/content/15/201702/17/15_1449411.shtml
Kunming to put 45,000 public use bikes on roads
Posted bySo now there's also Ofo bikes and Mobikes in the Kunming streets. With Youonbike, that's now 3 startups offering station-less bike sharing in Kunming... I'm guessing the municipal project with bike depots from this article is something else actually. I wonder if that started as well.

Posted bythey're here! saw the bikes today, and tried it. I could use it without Chinese ID card, just had to add 99 yuan to the app. The app is called 永安行.
