I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to this one either. In the past I sent a lot of parcels by mail, and all of the Chinese cardboard boxes I bought turned into a pile of mush by the time they reached their destination.

July first is also the 90th Anniversary of 共产党。
If it's difficult to find diet drinks in KM, and there is demand for it, why waste a good business opportunity?
I haven't been to a Wally World in KM, but I used to go to the one in Dali a few years ago. That one seemed fairly well taken care of with nice staff. But I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the merchandise, which is not like what a north american walmart carries at all. The one in Dali just carries typical junk you could find anywhere else but with lousy products. In Dali it can be nice to have sometimes if you need something right away and can't wait for a Taobao purchase to arrive. But Dali is a small city and there are less choices. If I lived in KM I don't know if I'd bother with Walmart.
Thanks, that really helps to know.
Unfortunately it sounds like your system will likely not work for me, as I am on an untreated private well, rather than chlorinated city water. I just spoke with some people at www.cleanwaterstore.com, and it was strongly recommended that I do chlorine injection with 40 gallon retention tank before I add any filters. Iron bacteria is a real problem, and the only way to get rid of it is with a disinfectant. Thankfully at the end of the process, the chlorine can be completely removed with a large carbon filter. For anyone else interested in iron removal, check out the "Catalox" iron removal filters at the cleanwaterstore. It doesn't require any chemicals to regenerate the beads, and apparently they ship to China too. I'm still trying to find out how much the shipping would be.
Dali is beautiful and a great place to relax, but my feeling is that it is probably easier to find work in KM. If you get comparable offers in both cities, then without a doubt choose Dali.

Editorial: Hydro expansion will fail without energy market reform
Posted byIsn't the government trying to shift away from dirty coal powered plants, to embrace "cleaner" energy like hydro, nuclear and natural gas? Considering over 70% of their electricity comes from coal, I really don't understand how you can have too much hydro. Is the energy source too far away from the demand?
Kunming police begin drive to register e-bikes citywide
Posted byXiefei, of course the system is designed to be able better monitor everyone's movements, not just foreigners. Everyone knows you can easily be tracked with your phone. Now there is yet another tool to keep better tabs on you. I won't be putting one on my bike, thanks.
I was just taking a cheap shot at those abusing student and travel visas.
Kunming police begin drive to register e-bikes citywide
Posted bySounds like a great way for the gubmint to keep tabs on people...especially pesky foreigners overstaying or working on school visas.
New high-speed rail line to link Kunming with Dali
Posted byI just found this article today:
www.comedali.com/tnew/show/id/2746
Now the opening date has been pushed back to late 2017 or early 2018.
I like how in the original gokunming article it stated "No cost estimates for the project were provided." That certainly turned out to be a major issue with regards to meeting the 2-3 year completion target. I guess I can't say I'm surprised considering Yunnan is known for poor work ethic and corrupt civil servants.
Fishing 'season' ends on slowly reviving Dianchi Lake
Posted byAs far as I can tell, Erhai is getting worse...at least the shoreline, mostly due to tourists throwing garbage into the lake, and lakefront hotels dumping in untreated sewage. I'm super depressed about the environmental situation in Dali, especially the air quality.
