Forums > Living in Kunming > Windows 7 Ultimate I was able to purchase Win 7 Ultimate (English) here in Kunming. It had to be special ordered. It was not cheap! Many of the computer shops here just install a pirated version of the OS.
I've run both Office 2007 and Office 2010 on Win 7 and since it's backward compatible you could even run older versions, but why would you want to.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Ban on smoking starts May 1st Enforcement is not the first problem with new laws. I've been in two restaurants since the new non-smoking rules came into effect. The first was a Japanese restaurant on the 6th floor of Brilliant Plaza. Ashtrays were still on the tables and restaurant patrons were smoking while walking around the buffet.
Today we were at Club Dubai on Lin Yu Lu. This is an extremely large upscale place. Ash trays are still distributed. We commented on this to the young lady who was seating us and she was not even aware of the new law - and THAT is the problem. There's a new law for restaurants but nobody has been told about it!!!!!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Malaria prevention @nnoble,
I'm with you on the Kunming driver issue. I'm thinking of getting some form of sedative just so I can be a passenger when my wife is driving (she's a Kunming native).
Forums > Living in Kunming > Can I renew a double entry Visa in Kunming? I renewed a double entry here in Kunming. Lost the second entry (cancelled the existing visa) like ludwig said, but was extended for 6 months with 1 entry so in the end I didn't really loose anything.

Kunming launches forum site for foreigners
Posted byI'm not sure this is actually a competitor site. The Kunming government has a responsibility to encourage and develop new sources of investment and tourism. In this new site they are simply doing their job.
It's possible they may have access to information that would not be immediately available to GoKunming, and vice versa, so the two sites could actually be complementary rather than competitive.
As for their skill with the English language, so what if it's not perfect. It's way better than my knowledge of the Chinese language and in general I can understand what they are trying to say.
