Despite Male Br**st Milk Stimulator Being a High-Demand Job in Other Provinces, Local Counterparts are Yet Unavailable in Kunming

Manager in the housekeeping Industry: the profession is privacy-sensitive and should not be encouraged

"Nowadays there's a much envied job: br**st milk stimulator. This is a guy and he gets paid 400 RMB per hour," this is the annotation accompanying a web photo featuring a male br**st milk stimulator at work; the thread has been re-posted many times.

Meanwhile, in May, China Employment Training and Technical Guidance Centre of the Ministry of HR and Social Security has issued a Licence to Practice for the first male br**st milk stimulator in our country. The message here is clear: being a br**st Milk Stimulator (henceforth referred to as "BMS"; same for br**st Milk Stimulation) isn't a female privilege anymore; guys can also take up this profession.

A. Present Condition
Male BMS are unheard-of in Kunming

The much-hyped-online issuance of Licence to the first male BMS makes us feel that male BMS's are in high demand and have great career prospects, is this true? The reporter has made investigations with hospitals, maternal care companies and housekeeping industry associations. Zhang Kai, Secretary of Kunming Housekeeping Industry Association, says: "(It's) not practical. It is not necessary for the work to be performed by males. Furthermore, it is privacy-sensitive and should not be encouraged. No males are in this profession in Kunming, either."

The Reporter has learnt that, presently there isn't any male BMS in Kunming; no information is available regarding the possibility to attend exams for the Licence.

B. Hospitals
No males are in the profession of BMS

The Maternity Unit of Yunnan Red Cross Hospital is located on the 11th floor of No. 1 Inpatient Dept Bld. A 40-something-year-old woman wanders about the wards during break hour. The words "BMS" and "Post-Maternity Care" can be read on her business card; she also invites patient relatives to on-site observation in other wards. However, she hasn't produced any licence or certificate to practise BMS. Her behaviour is indeed a mystery.

For recently-delivered women, the hospital will arrange for appliance-aided BMS. "Doc, could my wife use that appliance again?" "Sure! It's 50 RMB per use." The above is the conversation between a patient relative and a doctor. Although seemingly much occupied, the aforementioned 40-something-year-old woman hasn't been seen to find any customer... let alone a male BMS practising his trade.

C. Housekeeping Industry
We refuse to enrol male BMS's

Upon investigation, it is found that a large proportion of BMS services are included in maternity care packages offered by housekeeping companies. The Manager of a maternity care company located in mid-section of Jinbi Road says, while it is even disputable for male doctors to work in the Maternity Department, there is hardly any tolerance for males to work in the BMS profession. Technically, any unemployed above 18 with middle school education is allowed to receive training for BMS at the Company; yet, if any male actually applied for such training, he would only be rejected outright. When faced with the reporter's question, "What if a male decides to enter into the BMS profession?" the Manager even becomes a little cross.

"The BMS's at our Company fall into 18 skill grades. After 4 to 5 years in the profession, a person can expect to get 4,000 to 5,000 per month." The Manager says in the end. The reporter has had similar results from consulting with a couple of other housekeeping companies.

D. Females
We only accept female BMS's

When you need BMS, will you accept being serviced by a male? Ms Yang, a citizen, is of the opinion that, she can accept anything that is beneficial for the newborn – including BMS if she decides to br**stfeed the baby – however, the BMS must not be a male. After all, the issue is quite embarrassing and a female makes the decision much easier.

Ms Zhao, another citizen, says, "I can only accept a female (BMS). Physiologically speaking, a female's soft hands offer a natural advantage for this job. Psychologically, I think insufficient break milk after maternity is a result of nervousness. After all, each of most of us just had the firstborn and became a mother for the first time. Considering these circumstances, would a male BMS be anything but more mental stress?"

E. Lying-in Woman
Worried that the opposite gender cannot provide a thorough service

After delivery in the hospital, Ms Li hired a maternity maid to take care of herself at home; apart from a monthly wage of 4,200 RMB, she also has to provide boarding to the maid. "Even my maternity maid is unable to take good care of me: the water is so hot, yet she forces me to take it; I've had no former experiences and the family has high expectations for the br**stfeeding. I've no choice but to swallow the pain though it's so hard to bear... Now what's with all this talk about males doing such jobs??"

Mr Gong, a citizen, remarks, "I can accept neither BMS service not the BMS profession. I'm a person of traditional thinking. If my wife doesn't have enough milk for the baby, I'd rather receive professional training myself then help her. As for wives of other people, the husbands will surely protest about this even if I remain silent."

F. Association
We don't encourage males to enter the BMS profession

Zhang Kai, Secretary of Kunming Housekeeping Industry Association, says that the profession of BMS first emerged 2 or 3 years ago in Kunming and remained trendy for a duration. However, the market in Kunming is rather small and the demand isn't as high as imagined. Furthermore, no public administration has taken up charges to organise training or issue certificates for the practice.

Some of the BMS's in the trade obtained their relevant licences from other provinces; although these licences can be verified online, their validity still remains to be seen. Presently in the business, an experienced BMS will perform a physical exam on the lying-in woman following strict procedural steps. More practitioners will sign a Release of Liability Agreement with the family against service performance and accidents; in the latter case, there's a considerable suspicion of fraud.

G. Female BMS
There're no male BMS's in my company

Ji Zhili is the General Manager of a service company in Kunming and a BMS herself. Despite having engaged in the maternity care industry for 4 years, she only became a BMS in the past year. In September last year, Ji Zhili was present at the 3rd China Maternity Convention in Beijing; she was awarded an Advanced BMS Trainer's Licence by the China International Medical Exchange Fund.

"I've no idea how many others obtained the Licence in Kunming; but I was the only student from Kunming in the training class. There isn't any male BMS in my own company, either." Ji Zhili is of the opinion that, due to many lying-in women being cared only by the parents, the absence of proper professional care has resulted in inadequate preparation on the part of the br**stfeeding mothers, leading to an inability to br**stfeed. Upon realising this, Ji Zhili has decided to switch over to the BMS industry in order to provide service to other women, "from my personal point of view, I wouldn't hope the BMS business would flourish: being in a vulnerable state, a br**stfeeding mother's br**sts can sustain damage from excessive massage on the acupoints."

Forums > Living in Kunming > Google?

This looks really bad... A fellow netizen commented, "It's more like China quitting the world than Google quitting China." I have to agree on that.

Is it true that the business in China only provides Google with less than 10% of its income? Some say the decision was made because some other countries have more than half a mind of river-crabbing Google in their own country, seeing that it works out so well in China.

If this truly happens it's really gonna suck. >ω<

On the last sign ("nothing is possible"), the focus invariably falls on the handwritten mobile number and the word "办正" (forged licences) at the upper-right corner... As is typically seen on all kinds of outdoor posters, signs and other public places (such as men's room) nowadays.

What's even more comical is that the guy used the wrong character "" (meaning correct or straight) instead of "" (licence or certificate).

According to the 2nd link provided, the explosion was caused by improper handling of a gas tank... The deceased was the same guy who brought the tank into Salvador's and accidentally made it explode
