Forums > Food & Drink > Samoana closing

Well I see that Samoana is closing and up for sale, and so we have to say farewell to another eatery.
Good luck to the old owners in thier new ventures.

Does anyone know why they are moving on?

NB The smoke taste in most (not all) western products is in the cure (liquid smoke) and that is why the taste can be so strong. Unless it says naturally smoked on the package, it probably isn't.

The bacon we get from Guizhou is smoked, and we buy it in the market where they cut it off of the whole ham (pigs hind leg). Maybe that kind of bacon can be bought in Kunming too.

If the tarp being spoken about is the stripped one (2"stripe red/white/blue/etc.) it is woven plastic and is permeable. It works well as a sloped awning to shed water, but will not hold it really.

One thing you need to keep out more than water, is cats. There are surprisingly more cats than many people think, as they are usually feral and people shy.

Off topic, but related to theme songs. When we watched terrestrial TV we listened to the whole theme, even if only in the background while we quickly made a cup of tea or finished off some other chore. With streaming, or watching box sets, we quickly FF over the theme song and titles. We are missing a lot of great music.
Everything else said by the last two posters can be captured within the idea that we no longer live in a society, we live in a market.

A reasonable choice of lumber that has improved over time. Fancy hardwoods like walnut, and mahogany are in abundance. There are some plywood and rubber-wood boards available. There are also some kiln dried imported softwoods and merbao available. Some of the lumber is very green, so look for the kiln dried if you need stable timbers.

Echo everything said by others.
Breakfast great and the serve from 8am. Most other places say 9am and they still are not ready.
Sandwiches are cheap 22-32, and really packed full of filling. We got some sandwiches for a day out, the only mistake I made was ordering two, as this was too much. These are seriously good sangars, and they are wrapped in alu foil.

In fairness to Metro, they are a wholesalers, and not really a supermarket. Hence the need for a card, which can be got around.

They have improved in the year I have been away. They now carry a more consistent range of imported foodstuffs and they also seem to have sorted out the mported milk supply.

They have a wider range of electrical appliances now, there is a coice of more than one toast. There is also a better range of seasonal non foods, like clothes, shoes, garden furniture and camping gear.
