Forums > Living in Kunming > Linux Ubuntu help please!!

I did try askubuntu.com, still awaiting response. I really would like someone to look at it though, since I am basically the opposite of a computer expert, and I don't think I could understand many solutions they may offer.

For example, I don't know what a "kernel" is outside of the context of corn, and I don't know what a live cd is or how I would go about downloading it from Ubuntu.

How can I learn what version I have now and which I upgraded? Since the upgrades are automatic I don't know. How can I figure that out?

Thanks!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Linux Ubuntu help please!!

Hi!
I'm having some pretty serious issues with my current version of Ubuntu after my last automatic upgrade. Does anyone know anything about Linux? I need help urgently! I can't find my wireless connections and I can't play my music!
Thanks

Forums > Living in Kunming > DIY stuff, tools, wood etc.

Does anyone know where to get untreated wood? I'm looking to build a bee box, and bees don't like plywood or chemicals in their house. I have all the tools I will need (or my roommates do), just need some wood. Any info would be good. And I am aware of the existence of the internet, taobao, etc so no need to mention that. Thanks!

Forums > Travel Yunnan > coming for Spring Festival, want to cycle

Hi, I'm coming to Kunming from January 23-30, I live in Chongqing where people don't ride bikes, so I'm very interested in doing a 3-4 day bike trip in Yunnan. Where's the best place to start? Where's the best place to go? I can take a bus to another city from Kunming if there's a better starting point. I'm in decent shape, though I haven't ridden a bike seriously in like 8 months since I've been in CQ. Any info or tips would be great!

Lovely restaurant with top-notch service and fantastic food. I love all the beets, avocados, brussels sprouts, asparagus, quinoa, and tempeh. At first glance of their new menu I was overjoyed to see so much deliciousness, then nearly passed right out from elation when I noticed most of it is vegan! In all seriousness though I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. Highly highly recommend!

Best pizza in town. Slice of Heaven's a close second, and a better value on their 20kuai pizza Fridays, but overall taste and selection goes to Lost Garden, hands down. I went there for the 3rd or 4th time for the pizza night last week. We sat on their roof terrace, which has been re-done very nicely since the last time I was there. The service was reasonable, and the waitresses even spoke some English! On a previous visit I had a pumpkin soup and a baked pasta, both delicious and well-presented. Anecdote: I was there once on a cold day a couple of months ago and the foreign manager (owner?) made my friend and I hot toddies upon request, even though they're not on the menu, and they were pretty much perfect. I have nothing negative to say about this place.
