Forums > Living in Kunming > China seeks rail link between Kunming and Kolkata

China is keen to establish a high speed rail link between Kunming and Kolkata as part of its efforts to revive the ancient silk route, traversing through Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The proposal, which found a mention at the recently held Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) meet here, seeks to give a boost to the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar (BCIM) multi-model corridor project initiated by China.

"We are in favor of it. The high speed corridor would help the economies of Myanmar and Bangladesh as well," said Li Ji Ming, vice-secretary of Yunnan provincial government while indicating funding from multilateral bodies such as Asian Development Bank.

My friend Wu Fei from Beijing, wants to comment on these posts & give her personal opinion.

To me, i give those travelers a frame that they travel for that they love lives and natures, some Chinese, even me has different level of ethnic inferiority. we have been told the civilization of west has a over hundred years history. which must improve to a proper degree.

The west has better education, (even though education doesn't mean higher human dignity).

Chinese has history of respecting culture, and destroying it as well. so Culture is more like a tool, not something generate from root of soul.

Nowadays, as the result of the whole social affection, none would like to focus on pure attribution to others, but only money. as you know that good things with better quality in china are more expensive than after their export.

House are too expensive for ordinary to buy for a whole life.which is not a living issue, but a survival one.

So in this case, people admire lives in west, US. which is a result of contrast.

And it also gets another thing hostility.

we don't need care about the conspiracy, is there anyone who is planing the whole hostility to all foreigners.

If he is a rapist, why he paid plane tickets to come to china to rape a innocent Chinese girl in public? Drunk? it doesn't explain everything.

I think China with lousy law environment gives some Foreigners an expectation. once comes to china, they could expand without any limitation, I am not blaming on them, it's the whole being nature, Imagining that a human being, a individual once as normal as around, suddenly gets big admiration, realizing that he lives better living condition than others, better educated and better other things.

They would give him a superiority complex, like a king.

Living out of law or morality.

Those weird things Chinese do and Foreigners do. I think the differences are that most Chinese do them inconsciently. well, Foreigners do on purpose, challenge themselves or a big show-off to others.

I think the whole issue is addressed improperly & it has blown out of proportions.

Tell me the name of the country where rape doesn't happens or its not reported, according to the statistics, about one woman is raped each minute at least in this world, the number could be more.

Rape whether its done by localities or the foreigners is a heinous crime & it should be condemned to all possible levels.

Castigating that only foreigners do wrong or weird things in China is totally unacceptable and NO one is pious saint in this world.

The whole world is changing & we have to admit that as we progress, we have to deal with crime.

But the pertinent question still remains is that, how can we reduce such untoward incidents done by any foreigner in any foreign land.

Let me tell you, charity begins from home and if we change, surely the whole world will change.

I am sorry to write that its really unrealistic that foreigners only do weird things in China, what about Chinese people, dont they do weird things in foreign countries??

Recent excavations at the site have brought to light a large number of palatial complexes and basements of several platforms. Interesting finds include a large number of stone images, both in round and relief, beautiful terracotta objects and stucco figures that once embellished the palaces. In addition many gold and copper coins, household utensils, a square stepped-tank (sarovara) at the south-west of Mahanavami Dibba, and a large number of ceramics including the important variety of porcelain and inscribed Buddhist sculptures of 2nd -3rd century AD have also been unearthed.

Wujiaba airport is a memory....so many stories are linked with this place.

Well it cant be easily written off, given the importance of this airport which was used extensively during World war-II

Many veteran RAF officers are nostalgic about this place.....

Its matter of discussion about the usefulness & I am sure something concrete will come out.

Its a good piece of news since this Museum will show the Yunnan culture elaborately & the visitors will be benefited much from it.
Wish a gr8 success ahead !!

Its really nice to read any article about Yunnan & its historical cities, I had spent more than 3 years working in Kunming and Dali and by reading all these articles I feel because of massive industrializations, over use of infrastructure there's a huge loss of flora & fauna.
The weather had now changed its course, it gets more warmer in summer & more colder in winter.
Kunming is worst effected, what I saw Kunming in 2008-9 is totally changed, the atmosphere is embedded more dust & smoke particles making it difficult to breathe during the peak hours of the day.
But I really appreciate the steps taken by the local administration to make the surroundings clean & green.

I just feel that Kunming which is regarded as the spring city, should not change it to another METRO city like Guangzhou where one gets lost in the sea of people & cars.
