Forums > Travel Yunnan > How to get to Shilin?

Well many suggestions are really wonderful, but I always relied on Lonely Planet's Book on China, when I traveled Shilin in 2009-10
This book is worth buying if you wish to travel many places in China, where many intricate details are given & are updated time to time.

July 1 is the first day that Taiwan residents can visit the mainland without an entry permit.

Revised entry regulations announced last month mean Taiwan residents no longer have to apply for a visa-like entry permit for every visit. It generally took a week to 10 days to obtain an entry permit valid for two years at a cost of 170 yuan ($28) each time.

Forums > Living in Kunming > China's Great Wall is disappearing

Hi Guys, there's an interesting piece of information about the Great Wall..
I had been there twice & I feel proud to climb over it, but now things are getting worse day by day...Share your views..
Around 30 per cent of China's Ming-era Great Wall has disappeared over time as adverse natural conditions and reckless human activities - including stealing the bricks to build houses - erode the Unesco World Heritage site, state media reported.

The Great Wall is not a single unbroken structure but stretches for thousands of kilometres in sections, from Shanhaiguan on the east coast to Jiayuguan in the windswept sands on the edge of the Gobi desert.
Poor villagers in Lulong county in the northern province of Hebei used to knock thick grey bricks from a section of wall in their village to build homes, and slabs engraved with Chinese characters were sold for 30 yuan ($4.80) each by local residents, it said.

Under Chinese regulations people who take bricks from the Great Wall can be fined up to 5,000 yuan, the state-run Global Times said Monday.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Which is better to use Wechat or Whatsapp in China

Hi Guys !! I had gone through this interesting article about the high prevalence of usage of We chat by Chinese people.
I wonder which's better,my friends outside China just make a mockery of this application & many of them reported BUGS in this application.

A new report is suggesting Tencent's social messaging service WeChat is rapidly becoming one of the main sources for people in China to share information.

According to the report, the internet is now a must for many Chinese people seeking information, communicating, shopping, and paying for various products and services.

Recent excavations at the site have brought to light a large number of palatial complexes and basements of several platforms. Interesting finds include a large number of stone images, both in round and relief, beautiful terracotta objects and stucco figures that once embellished the palaces. In addition many gold and copper coins, household utensils, a square stepped-tank (sarovara) at the south-west of Mahanavami Dibba, and a large number of ceramics including the important variety of porcelain and inscribed Buddhist sculptures of 2nd -3rd century AD have also been unearthed.

Wujiaba airport is a memory....so many stories are linked with this place.

Well it cant be easily written off, given the importance of this airport which was used extensively during World war-II

Many veteran RAF officers are nostalgic about this place.....

Its matter of discussion about the usefulness & I am sure something concrete will come out.

Its a good piece of news since this Museum will show the Yunnan culture elaborately & the visitors will be benefited much from it.
Wish a gr8 success ahead !!

Its really nice to read any article about Yunnan & its historical cities, I had spent more than 3 years working in Kunming and Dali and by reading all these articles I feel because of massive industrializations, over use of infrastructure there's a huge loss of flora & fauna.
The weather had now changed its course, it gets more warmer in summer & more colder in winter.
Kunming is worst effected, what I saw Kunming in 2008-9 is totally changed, the atmosphere is embedded more dust & smoke particles making it difficult to breathe during the peak hours of the day.
But I really appreciate the steps taken by the local administration to make the surroundings clean & green.

I just feel that Kunming which is regarded as the spring city, should not change it to another METRO city like Guangzhou where one gets lost in the sea of people & cars.
