Bird and flower market has seeds. Got some 百里香 (thyme) and 七里香 (basil) from there recently. BTW, 七里香 is a not a familiar translation for basil for me, and I couldn't find any references to it online. I've known it as 罗勒, but only found out they were the same thing when talking to the vendor. Not sure if this is Yunnan specific.

i've actually just had it today on a street running off of baoshan jie in the city centre. i think the lane is called dingxin jie (鼎新街), but I can't be sure. If walking on baoshan jie from nanping jie direction, turn left at the lane with the just hot bakery on the corner.
walk along the lane for a minute or two and the xian restaurant is on your right, just after the pink convenience store on the left (sorry, i forgot the name of the chain). I think the restaurant has xi'an in it's title, but again, I can't be sure. Another hint is that it's next door to a muslim (清真) restaurant selling lamian.
Anyway, they have yang rou pao mou, rou jia mou, liang pi and a few other things. I've never been to xi'an, and the quality is not amazing, but I'd say it's worth a try.
I have some old, broken electronic items, phones, chargers etc. Does anyone know anywhere in town to recycle them? Or am I best to give them to little family electronic shops who might be able to repair them/find some use?

The older Chinese ladies running the joint in the day time are a delight - ever so friendly and helpful.
The coffee and bread are very good. This place is not for everyone, but every so often, it is just right for me.

White Vedett on a sunny day overlooking Wenlin Jie and the trees, and what used to be a wide-walking boulevard, I was recently told.
One of my favourite places in Kunming. Sensational bread and cheesecake in particular, and the pizza can be a real winner - though this is somewhat dependent on the day you go there.
5 stars. enough said.
Really like the atmosphere upstairs, and the coffee is decent.
