Forums > Travel Yunnan > Lower exchange rate for RMB outside China?

@tigertiger I wont have a Chinese visa while I'm abroad. I was thinking of withdrawing money via ATM from HuaXia. Are you saying the money may be blocked to me from the Chinese side?

Does anyone have first-hand experience of withdrawing money from ATMs abroad with a Chinese bank? Did you get the current exchange rate?

I've heard that exchanging RBM outside of China, perhaps around Asia in particular, will yield a much lower rate than say buying USD and exchanging those abroad. I've heard first-hand that changing RMB bills in Thailand got a lower-rate. Does anyone have experience in whether this is the case? Maybe there's a difference if you use a debit card from a Chinese bank account?

Another question. Is it relatively safe to keep a decent chunk of money in a Chinese bank while travelling and living abroad? HuaXia bank has a scheme which lets you make one free withdrawal per day outside of China. I'm just a little paranoid about the safety of leaving it here and managing it abroad.

Any comments or info is much appreciated!

Forums > Study > "Chinese Made Easier" book3 audio files

i was given a few of the books in the chinese made easier series from a friend, but unfortunately he didnt have the CD for the 3rd and i can't seem to buy them anywhere. i heard that a there are some schools in Kunming which use this book to study, and i was wondering if anyone on here would be so kind as to help me acquire the audio files for book 3 of the series. either sending them via email or i'd be more than happy to meet somewhere to copy the CD.

feel free to call/text, or send me an email. thanks,

Dino

went for dinner on a sunday night. staff were very friendly and the place had a great vibe and a quiet mellow second floor.

we ordered a tuna salad, a vegetarian japanese dish (forgot the name) and the vegetarian pizza. The first 2 dishes were great but the pizza was the worst I've had in Kunming in the few years I've been here. I swear it was a frozen pizza from Metro (they said it was made fresh...). On top of the mediocre frozen food taste, we ordered thick crust and were given thin, under-cooked (not heated-up enough?) crust.

When we paid the bill, we checked and were over-charged a few quai. An honest mistake i'm sure, but worth noting.
all in all we'll definitely go back but recommend avoiding the pizza.

Regardless of where Kunming is, there is some great western food in this city and so a standard to go with.
