I'm pretty sure your Huawei will work in China with multiple carriers. Almost every major carrior has 3g plans for usb dongle. I know I have seen tents selling electronics on yuantongbei lu. There they have one or two vendors with printouts of all the carriers and plans. Alternatively, you could walk into a China Unicomm store and just sign up there.

Couldn't you just walk to any of the four Starbucks in town or the many many cafes on Wenlinjie and just ask?

I like elong.com, but for China to international it's probably as good as expedia.com
qunar.com has good prices, but it's in Chinese and some tickets are difficult to buy
kayak.com and skyscanner.net are pretty good for any international
Forums > Living in Kunming > Dining alone in China/Kunming
Uh when you dine alone at fine restaurants in the USA, they make a huge commotion of removing all the other silver ware and dining set at your table. I think that's a pretty unpleasant experience. Though as a single diner, you are ignored by the patrons, and staff sometimes.
Maybe the looks you get at a Chinese restaurant is because you are a foreigner and you just notice it more since you're alone and not talking to your buds.

I like The Club for dancing. People actually dance there! It's next to the YMCA club, but pretty small place.
