I too like per capita rankings. But then I realized the environment could care less if a mound of garbage comes from 100 small people or 10 big wasteful ones. Is that fair? Nope. Does Planet Earth care about human math? Nope. It just sees a large mound of garbage coming it's way.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Air Quality!!! Kunming Not So Good. I agree with tigertiger, but here's a reality check.
China is the world #1 consumer of coal.
China is the world #2 consumer of oil.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Short-term storage in Kunming? It's usually giant room with tagged bags. I have never had a problem as they require ID, but I have never left bags longer than 6 hours. They will allow overnight, but it should cost a bit more.
The Shanghai airport has individual lockers with magnetic cards. Never tried Kunming airport.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Short-term storage in Kunming? I've been able to find storage at most train stations in China for 10-15rmb per day. It's usually outside around the station entrance. Sometimes they have english directional signs saying Left Luggage. Never tried to the Kunming train station since I take my bags home.
Some bus stations also offer the bag storage, but the ones in Kunming are all so far out, it would suck to go there and find out they don't.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Air Quality!!! Kunming Not So Good. Very few factories exist in Kunming. Not that Kunming wouldn't love to have them, but logistics and lazy labor pool make Kunming a very unattractive place to open one.
However, the 2nd ring road and beyond is just one apartment construction site after another. Add in the growth in trucks and cars others have mentioned plus a drought, you have more than enough reasons why Kunming air is on the fast track downhill. Whether this can be reversed in the future, or we will end up like Chengdu will remain to be seen.
