Forums > Food & Drink > Wasteful Business Lunches @GBTEXDOC
Was the food mostly eaten or mostly wasted at those business lunches in the US? I seem to recall you ate at least half the food in the West, unless you were on a diet or not feeling well. And usually you had to make excuses as to why you weren't eating the food, as it looked bad if you let it go to waste or would be interpreted as making the hosts selection of restaurant look poor. That doesn't seem to be the case in China.
I'm not against people spending big dollars for high priced food/drink to impress. I'm just offended by people leaving 98% of the dish uneaten.
tigertiger alluded to that extravagance with food maybe learnt at home. I agree that using an abundance of food to impress is part of most cultures when hosting, but waste of it usually is not. There is way way too much food at most US Thanksgiving family gatherings, but the food's purpose isn't as display, it is to be eaten sooner or later. The dabao being frowned upon for many reasons in China is also a hindrance.
Forums > Living in Kunming > New visa for China in HK Double entry maybe country specific. For US and Canada it seems to be obtainable in HK (though my last info was 9 months ago). US and Canada, they said the one year multiple entry tourist visa was only available home country consulates. British citizens are the most restricted and pay the most, even more than US. Not sure about other countries.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Xishuangbanna Guesthouses Hostels Recommendations Looks nice! Thanks! Keep those recommends coming if anyone has something to share.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Verification Some people may have forgotten the password they made up when they registered for GoK. Why go looking for it when you don't have to yet? I forgot since I let my browser log in for me. If I hadn't of guessed/recalled it by the third try, I probably would of just stayed unverified till I had a more pressing reason.
GoK decided to be unobtrusive about it for existing users, which shows a lighter touch. But it does mean a lot of people don't know about it. No one got an email or big flashing window saying "Hey, you might want to verify" And only power users would take notice by themselves.
Forums > Living in Kunming > New visa for China in HK It's a really busy place, so I'm sure they are handing out visas. Could it be that they are denying more business visas, sure. Could it be that they are enforcing more small rules that they never bothered to, like overly worn passports or prior visas peeling off, sure. Could it be that they are being more strict in handing out visas to anyone media related or has relatives in the media, sure. It's the year of political changeover and add in the Beijing laowai crackdown, they could easily decide to do any or all of the above. However, if your passport is valid and not expiring anytime soon and you don't fill out anything that's suspicious, you should be able to get a single entry 30 day or two entry 90 day tourist visa.
Doors to international trade swing wide for Laos
Posted by50 years isn't excessive given the amount of infrastructure to be built along with the rail. Also, factor in the low population density of Laos, hilly terrain, and most of the equipment will have to be imported, 50 years is about right. Even the USA has handed out some 50 and even 75 year BOT contracts.
