Forums > Food & Drink > Bread in Kunming The bread war has begun. At Park 1903 shopping center near Dianchi, a yeast race for Kunming boulangerie (bakery shop) supremacy has started.
Just Hot just opened their fanciest boulangerie and cafe in town at 1903. Equipped with a fancy, imported Spanish kiln stone oven churning out traditional poilâne sourdoughs at 400 degrees for authentic texture and flavor. They even house an open natural yeast room with jars on display. Supposedly, they use imported ingredients like Belgian chocolates and flour. Unlike the typical Just Hot shops, a sandwich maker and barista are present here, with seating areas for patrons.
50 meters away sits the fanciest Bon Appetite bakery in town. Like Just Hot, they integrated a cafe with European style small rounded tables and seating.
150 meters away is by far Kunming's prettiest Jiahua bakery standing three-storey tall and designed like a cathedral with many seating areas. Aptly called "Jiahua Best" for their high-end atmosphere, they serve exquisite desserts not seen in other Jiahua stores.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Xinjiang - Travel Check back at the end of the month to see if Lucky prices are lower than the field, which if I recall are around two grand.
One of the lowest budget airlines, Lucky Air is like the AirAsia or Lion Air in the Mainland. Prices may be considerably less.
I haven't been to xj yet , but the scenery on live-streams looks jaw-dropping.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Xinjiang - Travel Good news. Lucky Air (祥鹏航空) may be offering direct flights from Kunming to Ürümqi at the end of this month.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Running in Lijiang @trice Yes, Zhongji Hai (中济海) is conveniently situated in residential areas. South of Shuhe residential district and northwest of Gucheng district.
The ~3 meters wide running surface seems to be made of impact-resistant, synthetic material. Probably a combination of polyurethane, rubber, and granule particles. Feet-friendly yet durability to withstand outdoor elements of UV and rain.
For this reason, the windy paths of wood panels are made of PVC or wood-plastic composite material.
This sports activity park is a safe and quiet place to run without passing motorists or traffic stops.
Nice to see locals of all ages already putting this oasis to good use... taking strolls or indulging in picnics over soft grass under tall conifer tree shades.
Although hip, including a BMX dirt track for motocross fans next to the skatepark may be overkill.
Forums > Travel Yunnan > Running in Lijiang Shave 5 meters in height from that climbing wall, but add five for length.
China-Laos railway now connecting cities of Kunming and Vientiane
Posted byLike this railway, Beerlao lager is also a joint venture (Carlsberg Group with the Lao government) and one of the most prominent brands in Laos. A national treasure worth protecting ;)
The brewery company's 10% shrinkage during summer wet seasons may be attributed to the poor road conditions scattered throughout most of Laos. One of the infrastructural problems that needs to be addressed at the ministerial level.
The "three hours" bottlenecks for passengers in Moding is a wrinkle to be ironed out... granted the two extra shared vehicle trips (jacked up fares on the Lao side) between Boting, the border checkpoints, and Moding could now be bypassed.
The Lao government needs to stop turning a blind-eye to their custom officials, not to mention the consulate staff in Kunming, from threatening passengers and pocketing extra fees for themselves.
China-Laos railway now connecting cities of Kunming and Vientiane
Posted byBeginning sometime next month in April, the Laos China Railway trains will seamlessly cross borders without the hassles of disembarking for border checkpoints.
China-Laos railway now connecting cities of Kunming and Vientiane
Posted byGood news. Starting next Wednesday on March 15, passengers can book tickets for the Laos-China Railway on their mobile devices (via the "LCR Ticket" app, available on Play store or Apple).
Currently, reserving train seats for the Laos' rail portion have been hectic as local scalpers have dominated the station queues, reselling train seats to Luang Prabang at double or triple rates.

COVID-19 vaccinations for expats in Kunming available until July 18
Posted byAlthough Omicron has already been ripping through Kunming, the word is that the fourth vaccine, in the aerosol form of inhalable or spray, may be rolling out in Yunnan for the general public at the end of the month or the next.
I hope prior to lunar new year, the more vulnerable elderly in rural outskirt villages, where health services are relatively dearth, will also have access to these updated vaccines when they congregate in town markets every five days during traditional "ganji" to sell their homegrown produce.
