Forums > Food & Drink > Local Organic Vegetable Delivery... Interested??

The cost will fall somewhere between 40 and 55 for 5 kilos of assorted veggies. We're still trying to work that out. In the future, we might be able to work organic meats into the mix. We will try to give the option of 1 or 2 deliveries per week.

The Kunming CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Organic Food Club is planning to launch distribution by March. So far there seems to be about 20-30 people interested in receiving weekly to bi-weekly delivery of local organic veggies. If you are interested too, please reply to this thread.

Deliveries will be made 1-2 times a week to one shared location. Vegetables will be assorted and weigh a total of 5 kilos. I think that this is a program that could be a nice addition to the Kunming lifestyle. I encourage those interested to reply to this thread or email colin_flahive @ hotmail.com as soon as possible.

Cheers

I highly suggest that anyone interested in visiting Haobao, Yunnan's main organic vegetable food supplier, do so. It's in a beautiful small valley up in the mountains about 45 minutes from Kunming. They have guesthouses and great fresh organic food. There are a few stories in GoKuming's database if you want to read more. And if you do make the trip and have suggestions for the Organic Food Club, please respond to this thread.

Starting very soon, I will be putting together an organic food club where those interested can buy a membership to weekly or bi-weekly organic food pick-up.

The idea is that Haobao, a local organic farm, will pack individual boxes of assorted vegetables weighing 5 kilograms each. Each box will cost around 60 RMB and will contain vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini, chili, greens and other rarities like brussel sprouts. The assortment will be random and cannot be specified to the desire of each customer. In the near future, we may be able to incorporate some organic meats.

I am thinking that each person can make one payment each month for either a once a week or twice a week pick-up. There will also be a 100 RMB deposit on the container. Each person will be responsible to remember this pick-up or give a 2 day advance notice.

I've been in China for a long time and have kind of missed this movement in the West. So if you have any suggestions as to how to run this operation or if you are interested in helping out, please contact me or reply to this thread. And if you would like to be a buyer of organic foods in Kunming, please send your name, number and email address to c o l i n _ f l a h i v e @ h o t m a i l . c o m.

Cheers, Colin

For those who don't already know, as of yesterday restaurants in Kunming are opening up. Salvador's Coffee House and Mosaic Bistro are both currently open from 10 am to 9 pm. As staff return to Kunming, we might soon be able to get back to full operating hours. There are some rules that we must currently follow including...

1. must scan in QR code
2. must scan temperature
3. must wear mask when not eating or drinking
4. must limit seating at tables and tables must be at least 1 meter apart

Hopefully the slow recovery towards normalcy will be seen again next month in the rest of the world.

I'm leaving this review for one of my staff. She just return from Dali and fell in love with this little restaurant in Dali. Very nice owners cooking up delicious and healthy Chinese cuisine with an open kitchen and local "organic" ingredients. I'll have to try it out myself next time.

If you're looking for a slightly higher end place serving local foods in a nice outdoor atmosphere, you'll dig this place

I'm disappointed in myself for even considering giving this place another chance. I wanted to give my 4-month old a chance to see some live animals and I was sure that there was no way that the Kunming Zoo was as bad as it was 15 years ago. Somehow it was worse. It's disgraceful that with all of the changes that this city has undergone in the last two decades that this zoo still lacks any sense of decency or morality.

At nailer and tallamerican, I'm sorry to hear about your recent experiences. We wash everything with purified water and make all of our food fresh daily from whole ingredients in order to avoid any problems. We will review our procedures to assure that we continue to provide the safest and healthiest menu options possible. I hope you'll give us another try and I'd be happy to buy you a coffee if you are around any morning.

@GoKunming, it would be nice if there was a zero star option for reviews so that business owners can contribute without having to rate ourselves. I kind of feel like a d-bag giving myself stars 1-5. For some reason I settled on 4 as the least douchey ;).
