@angelcrazy2: In the past, GoKunming has had exclusivity agreements with two companies. These agreements have since expired. GoKunming no longer has exclusivity clauses with any companies or individuals, nor will we in the future.

Forums > Living in Kunming > GoKunming feedback

GoKunming has been around for seven years and in that time has undergone two redesigns aimed at improving its functionality and accessibility.

The last redesign went live in July 2010 and since then both the site and its number of users have grown significantly. The GoKunming team has started to work on redesign once again, looking for ways to update current functionality and introduce new features.

Our goal, as always, is to provide GoKunming users with the best experience we can. To that end, we encourage you to use this forum thread to give us your ideas and opinions on what you would like the new GoKunming to be.

Some specific areas where we would like feedback:
- general site features
- possible improvements to current functionality
- sections beyond the currently available (events, classifieds, forums, etc)
- user account features
- usability and user interface

Please leave constructive criticism and also tell us what you like.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

The GoKunming Team

Forums > Living in Kunming > My brand new electric scooter was stolen today

No need to load the bike onto a small truck. I had my e-bike stolen in front of Slice of Heaven two months ago. I parked right in front of the door with the bike on steering lock, thinking I would only be inside for one minute. One minute became 3 minutes and as soon as I walked outside it was gone. They must have unlocked it in the time I was inside, with guards and security cameras of the yun'an shang pin xiaoqu only a few meters away.

Thieves have become more common and more skillful in stealing all kinds of scooters. If you have a nicer one especially, don't even think about not using an extra lock these days, wherever you are and however long you think you need before returning to your bike.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming Cultural Events Not Listed

We at GoKunming agree that we should be listing more cultural events as well. For a big part right now we rely on venues submitting their events, mainly because being able to actively reach out to every venue and finding out about every event through many different sources requires quite a lot of dedicated time spent.

We try to list as much as possible and at the same time we'll never be able to list everything that happens in the city. Admittedly, the parade was a rather big event – still something I only found out about by accidentally passing by.

@blobbles: Thanks for sharing your ideas. As a matter of fact, we're working on redesigning the website and welcome any ideas from our (regular) users to make the website better. Don't expect big changes until several months from now, as we take the redesign seriously and hope to create the best possible website we're able to come up with now. Your suggestions for the events section have previously already been incorporated in our new (concept) design, as we already came to the same conclusion as you did. :)

Forums > Living in Kunming > any western doctor /hospital ?

I would be careful when going to YunDa hospital. I had a pretty bad eye infection a few weeks ago and also went to YunDa. They were correct on it being a bacterial infection, after which the 3 giggling girls looking into my problem decided I needed a drip, 2 types of eyedrops and 1 type of eye cream. All of these were antibiotics. I laughed and left, called up a friend – also a trained doctor – who told me to only take Amoxicillin orally. The infection was visibly gone in 2 days (I kept taking the antibiotic for a week though).

Also, if your problem is not caused by a bacterial infection, taking antibiotics can possibly make it worse. Many of the doctors here, and especially people working in pharmacies, will give you wide-spectrum antibiotics for every problem, so always make sure you know what they're giving you.

Richland will usually give a decent diagnosis, but make sure you go there during regular hours as a lot of their better doctors / specialists won't be on duty in evenings / weekends / holidays.

Forum search has been added to the global search as well as of today. We try to optimize the results to be as relevant as possible. Meanwhile, we'd love to get feedback on the current user experience. We will keep making improvements to the website, and are planning to add the new search function to the header (top menu) of each page in the near future as well for optimal access.

Alexez: I did post on the photos and actually lowered saturation. The grain is on purpose, shame you don't like it. :)

Xizhou is one of Dali's gems, only about 18 kilometers north along the lake from Dali Old Town. The old town still feels authentic and is like a living gallery, showcasing the impressive artistry and culture of the Bai people.

It makes for a great stop on the way up to Shaxi Old Town too, which is perhaps my favourite place in Dali prefecture.

I've been to the Stone Forest many times and although when entering the park it may feel a bit like a tourist trap, there's areas in the back that, even during high season, are usually extremely quiet and can be explored without being surrounded by the crowds.

The landscape is unique and different from many nearly areas that also feature karst rock formations. Definitely worth a visit for those who haven't been yet.

Five stars for focussing on healthy foods. Homemade live sauerkraut, lots of dishes with quinoa, chia seeds, avocado, and tons of other superfoods mixed to create a tasty and healthy cuisine. I hope this is only the beginning of a new wave of alternative food options in the city.

One of the better options in Lijiang for a western meal. Had a set menu through meituan for only 99 yuan that included a very decent steak and onion soup. The environment is spacious and nicely designed with the restaurant being conveniently located in between the InterContinental and LUX hotel inside of the old town. We were not drinking, but they looked like having an impressive wine collection. 5 stars if they improve on speed and service level.

Sofitel is easily one of Kunming's top hotels now, featuring one of the best locations, in between the city center and the popular Dianchi Lake area.

The views from any of its rooms, as well as the buffet restaurant are quite stunning, offering previously unseen panoramas over the whole of Kunming.

There's a bar on the 50th floor, although currently it still has some work to do to be able to compare itself with similar 'skybars' in Shanghai or Beijing.
