Jian Chuan Old Town is very nice. Reminds me a lot of Weishan Old Town in Dali. Shaxi is special because it is part of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. However, it is very small. Make sure you visit Shi Bao Shan when you are in Jian Chuan and do not miss the 1000 Lion Mountain.

I have been to Lugu Lake 6 times in the last 10 years. The road to Lugu is the SHAME of Lijiang. This road has been under construction for more than 10 years and it still is not completed. The earthquake a few years back did not help any. Last time I went 2 years ago the highway from NingLang to Lugu was finally completed but I am not sure if the quake had any effect on this part of the trip.

The bigget problem is the part of the highway from Lijiang Old Town to NingLang.

Finally made it to Lijiang via the new road. Total time is 3 hours. It takes 1 hour from the Xia Guan Bus Station to the entrance of the highway at the top of Erhai lake near ShaPing. The bus will stop at Dali Old Town in front of the Asia Star Hotel to pick up passengers going to Lijiang. The bus only had 12 passengers when it started in Xia Guan. Most of the passengers came in from Dali Old Town.

I previously mentioned that there is an exit and toll gate in Shuang Lang. This has really increased the number of tourists visiting.

Now there is an exit in JianChuan so expect this Old Town to see many changes in the next few years. The best part of JianChuan was that it was virtually untouched by tourism. I suggest you go visit JianChuan as soon as possible before it changes too much. I already see a lot of construction in this area with a brand new Pagoda under construction.

1000 Lion Mountain is a great palce to visit. I am sure the 20 Yuan entrance tickets will increase soon.

I have the name, phone and address of a Lisu crossbow maker in Liuku. The crossbows pictured above are all short, the man I met makes the long crossbows. If interested, let me know and I will pass on the info needed to contact him. He sells bows, arrows, quivers and has a collection of exotic animals he hunted and killed in Burma.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
