@Janjal wrote 'I still don't understand why the US agency (State Dept.) that issued the certificates would need to further authenticate the certificates that they themselves issued.'
I think they may be authenticating the document itself is genuine, not the content of the document being correct.

4.2 is tiny. Richter scale is a logarithmic scale. Essentially, each successive magnitude is 33 times larger than the last. That means a magnitude-8.0 earthquake is 33 times stronger than a 7.0, and a magnitude-9.0 earthquake is 1,089 (33 x 33) times more powerful than a 7.0 — the energy ramps up fast. Working the other way, each successive magnitude smaller, and the movement quickly diminishes to not noticeable, especially at 150 km.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Wechat groups?

There are facebook groups.

The problem with Wechat groups is that once they get over a certain size, 50?100?, the person who started the chat is legally responsible for anything posted. This could include fines or jail, so most chats are kept below the magic number. Not enough for a general expat group.

Forums > Living in Kunming > The importance of TEFL

Putting aside private sector enterprises.
It used to be that all state sector education you needed to have a recognized TEFL (e.g. CELTA, TESOL) certificate to teach English. Unis give foreign expert certificates, and you need all of the paperwork to apply.
You do not need need a TEFL to teach other subjects, but employers like it.
To teach other subjects in Uni I have been asked to provide Masters degree certification in a related field. I am not sure what high schools want for non English subject teachers. btw you didn't even need to be a native speaker for non English teaching.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Water pressure/ Hot water problems (plumber?)

You will find them in some Walmart/Carrefour, and anywhere else that sells bathroom stuff.

Don't waste your time, or money. They are a bit of a con. They do not increase flow. They pulse it with some kind of spinner in the head. Arguably they increase pressure momentarily, but then decrease it momentarily. I couldn't feel any difference really. The volume per minute is the same.

Some dogs have a reputation for being yappy. Some breeds are know to bite people. Some breeds have been documented as killing people, some breeds more than others. I once heard of a chihuauhau killing rottwieler, it stuck in his throat.

I am with lemon on this. There are good owners but in a culture where a dog is not mans best friend, there are more bad ones. There are also problem breeds and the good dogs get lumped in with the bad. As for the muzzle law, well laws don't mean much here.

They have been around for about 3 weeks now. They would manage even if people didn't feed them, they are scavengers and survive the rest of the year without human input. I also doubt that they only visit Kunming.

Beer, 5 stars. A genuine German beer process, and a very drinkable product.

Food, 1 star. As a previous reviewer noted, autobahn rest stop type food. A very limited menu of lackluster choices. You would get more choice at a street corner schnell imbis in Germany.
The mushroom pizza (choice of one pizza) was OK but very small for the price. The sausage was not hot. Meat products should not be served luke warm, even if they are factory cooked like a Bratwurst.

I would go back for the beer, but would not take anyone there for the food.
