Forums > Living in Kunming > Civilized Kunming A friend of a friend runs a family operated shao kao stand at night... they rake in 30K a month! Yeah, no kidding.
I've found breakfast stands to be quite convenient in the early mornings. Now they've completely vanished in visible traffic areas. They'll find their way back soon enough once Kunming earns the coveted "civilized" badge.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Civilized Kunming Ahead of Beijing inspections this month, the red bicycle dock stations installed everywhere in inner city these past few weeks, feels like smokescreen attempt by local/provincial officials to show central accounting what they've done with their allocated budgets all these years, which in reality were probably back pocketed and not put to use for the good denizens of Spring City. Maybe i'm just being overly cynical.

Yunnan's capital scrambles as 'Civilized Kunming' audit looms
Posted byGreat article explanation for foreigners living in Kunming! This is the best thing that has happened to KM in years, albeit for a limited time.
For those that frequent local vegetable & meat markets, a lot have changed for the better. Now they have verification stands with overhanging billboards electronically displaying updated produce prices as to protect consumers from getting ripped off by vendors. You can even re-scale your purchases at these check points by special personnel in uniforms.
You'd be surprise how much cheaper the groceries have become. Lets hope this cleaner and spacier shopping experience continues past July.
