Elisa- For Pepto...you may want to try looking around at pharmacies for boxes labeled Bismuth subsalicylate- I've found at least with allergy medicine that sometimes the pharmacies have the same stuff, its just called something different. For small dry erase boards, I think I may have seen some at Metro- or you could also look at teacher supply stores like the one on Wen Lin Jie (watch for lots of globes and fake skeletons).
As for myself, the thing I'm having the hardest time finding in Kunming is jeans. Is it impossible to buy jeans here if you aren't stick thin or have an aversion to "bedazzlement"? I'm not obese or anything, but you'd think so after a few fitting room fiascoes!! Any ladies who are in the size 9-10 range who have had any luck, please let me know!!
I've seen Vaseline brand body lotion around, and a Chinese version of Claritin that contains the same ingredient (Loratadine) is available, but you won't be able to find anything that contains the D (decongestant) part.
Tell your wife she can definitely buy a hair dryer for cheap at street side shops everywhere. She may also want to know that tampons are almost impossible to find here, and if there are any particular kinds of cosmetics she is attached to, get 'em in the states. Finally, I'd make sure you bring plenty of socks and underwear- the stuff they sell here is pretty terrible.
Thanks again for everyone's input. I finally got paid, and I ended my employment with the school. However, I've decided not to post the school's name, because I know that the school was not maliciously withholding my pay- they are just having some financial problems. I would feel bad harming their reputation when they are already having so many troubles.
Booked a decent room and got upgraded for free to a suite on the club floor. Room had an amazing bathtub with a view of the whole city, plus a sitting room and a separate bedroom with nice views as well. I'd say the service and décor in general were just ok, but the free cocktail hour and buffet breakfast that were included made it an above average experience.
One of the best weekend getaways I've had in a very long time. Wonderful, kind owners, gorgeous surroundings, and awesome bread and pizza. There's also a well stocked bar. It's just a lovely, chill place for anyone that's looking for a quick escape from the city. I'd recommend calling ahead to book if you plan on staying overnight or want to make special arrangements for food.
I've always been a fan, but the new menu is especially exciting. Tried the pulled pork pizza and the burger last night- yum! Happy that there are more varied options now. Can't wait to try the 4 cheese pasta next-looks AMAZING!
I'm very surprised at the last reviewer's comments, because I've lived in Kunming for more than seven years, and have eaten at Salvador's at least once a week for most of my time here, and I'm pretty sure it's one of the few places in town I can count on NOT to make me sick! The food is consistently good-especially the new tacos, and the service is wonderful. The newly expanded space is lovely and open, as well. I'll certainly continue to make it my home away from home!
