I vote for Paul's Shop, too (the one on the main drag of Wenhua Xiang, not the one around the corner).
They have 8 different varieties of beans, 90 yuan/1000 g, and they'll ground them for you.

I vote for French Cafe and Slice of Heaven for best real bread.

For "Chinese-style bread" Just Hot is the best of the bunch. Their maple croissants are a great deal at only 2 yuan each. Bread Story also has decent danishes.

Can I just clear something up..

Restaurants selling their used oil to these recycled oil rackets is not the same thing as restaurants buying said used oil.

Right?

Every restaurant produces used oil. If there's a market for that used oil there shouldn't be anything strange about them selling that used oil.

The concern that most people have should on the receiving, not donating, end. That is, the restaurants that purchase the used oil.

But witnessing the collection of used oil is not proof that that same restaurant will later reuse it.

At least this is how the logic appears to me.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong....

Hydro is no silver bullet. There are a lot of downsides to these dams, ecological, social, and economic.

There is a recent historical record with plenty of evidence which we can consult, where the Chinese have built dams like this one in other neighboring countries, like Laos. In most cases, the social (AND economic) impacts on the communities who inhabited the valleys that flooded by these megaprojects have been devastating.

I suggest you read Brian Eyler's new book "The Last Days of the Mighty Mekong"

60 yuan for a pint of Guinness is very expensive. Fortunately, the Belgian beers on tap for 35 (I think?) are a good deal, as is the Fish n Chips with a pint of Carlsberg for 50.

I'm a big fan of Wicker Basket's salad bar. It's a great deal, whether paired with an entree or by itself. The potato salad and spinach salad and broccoli bacon salads are particularly good.

Most of the entrees may not be the most gourmet in the world (several things seem to be stored in the freezer) but they are decent and reasonably priced.

A huge variety of baked goods to choose from, with excellent cookies and granola and bagels.

My only complaint is the elevator music. They could definitely spice the atmosphere up with more interesting music.

Do they have beef?
I always thought it was bizarre that Indu Cai Cai and Ganesh had beef on the menu. What Indian restaurant serves beef? 100% inauthentic.
