Both Cloudland and Upland are good choices to meet travelers. Cloudland has a bigger lounge area so maybe it's a better choice if you want to do a bit of studying
Actually, Myanmar is the most expensive country to get to, Thailand is quite cheap.
Don't worry about I2, they're not the best school in Kunming, on paper good salary but they will make you work a lot of office hours. I would say come here and find a job. There are plenty of jobs going here and it's much easier to judge the school during the interview.
Leaving the country isn't a big hassle from Kunming. There are cheap flights to many surrounding countries all of which have Chinese consulates and visa centres.
I recently went to Thailand where unionpay machines were everywhere, however some were older machines that only read the magnetic strip. Both my Chinese cards don't have a functioning strip one has worn off and the other, newer one simply doesn't have it. The newer cash machines tended to be at convenience store

Needed a lot of work done after years of neglect. Everything was taken care of professionally and the result was perfectly satisfactory. Only gripe was that at one point my tooth got infected but the clinic sorted it all out.
