Hey everyone thanks so much for your help. After a few months of searching I have found two places in this city that offer some amazing coffee.

One is called Liang You and it is in th Bei chen complex behind the swimming pool. It is a tiny place with no atmosphere at all since it is more of a roasting place than a cafe. The owner is an artist with his roasting and loves coffee as much as anyone I know and I have been in the coffee industry for several years. He does not do espresso drinks, only single origins from all over the world so don't go there looking for a Carmel latte or anything like that. If you want beans to brew at home this is the place hands down. His number is 13888106586

The other place with really good coffee is the elephant bar book store behind Mazagrands or whatever that place is called. It is half underground and the honest I was not expecting much since most book store cafe suck bewand words but this place it great both from a coffee quality perspective and a super chill place to hang out and read or get some work done. They have a wide variety of both single origin coffees and very good quality espresso.

I hope everyone can check these two places out and support folks who are trying hard to bring us drinkable coffee in kunming.

Thank you all for the replies. I know the Hanni coffee people because we bought a few tons of green coffee from them for our roastery in north china. I will go buy some Roasted Hanni coffee tomorrow.

It sounds like there are no shops in town that really focus on making craft or specialty coffee from what I'm reading that many local roasters either that are producing a good product.

Since you guys starting talking about Arabica and Robusta I thought I would add my thoughts. In yunnan almost all of the coffee grown here is a variety call Catimor which is technically an Arabica but it was originally a hybrid of both Robusta and Arabica. It is often known to be a little flat or boring to drink but with more and more research being done and processing methods improving there is starting to be some really good Catimor coffees coming out of Yunnan.

Ok well enough coffee nerd talk but if anyone finds an awesome little shop some place let me know and I'll of the same for you all.

I'm new in town and have work a bit in the coffee industry. I was wondering if there are any real good coffee shops in town or anywhere I could buy good fresh roasted beans to brew at home?

Thanks,
Marty
