Forums > Living in Kunming > RDP from China

I have accessed computers outside China with RDP client, but last time was maybe 2 years ago. It worked as backup option to check email etc when other options were unavailable, but that's it.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Diarrhea issues

I have never really got sick directly from food, water or related issues in Kunming. Child in kindergarten creates indirect channel though.

There is one particular city elsewhere in Yunnan where I have on number of occasions got sick from eating, to the degree of trying to avoid the city altogether.

I am not convinced that my stomach is less sensitive than most people's, but if that would be the case and there still is specific city where I frequently get problems, it probably indicates need of attention of health officials - or would somewhere else.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Gokunming-Where have all the foreigners gone

I think that most of the concerns brought up on this thread are not about any specific ethnicity of foreigners, but merely holding a foreign passport and as such denied (sometime without legal basis) services.

Registering at hotel for example, where one is required to present a Chinese ID or foreign passport, I don't think that it would make difference whether the passport says USA, Finland, Iraq or Korea (with face matching the mainstream ethnicity in given country) - treatment would be same.

I would not attribute those toward central government policies as much as ignorance of local establishments and local government entities supervising them.

Kunming is still not a civilized city - even by China's own standards, right?

Forums > Living in Kunming > How many foreigners are left?

Indeed nobody (except PSB) would know exactly, but probably won't have public data until next national census?

Should probably factor in that beside CoVid-19 there may be other reasons (for-profit education crackdown for example) that contributes to some foreigners choosing to leave, while the pandemic simultaneously making some unable to leave despite wanting - as demonstrated in above comment.

So even if there were solid figures, interpreting those might be non-trivial. If looking for reasons at all that is.

Yes - Chinese settle primarily for safe and efficient delivery, and (again, on average) do not put as much detail on how it gets done. Same for many services, medical or other. End result means more than the process, and in child delivery historically there are more valid reasons for that.

In case of foreigner experiences as described above, this goes deep in the system and the people working in the field are not (yet?) equipped to even consider other or better processes, because only the results in big picture matter.

In other words, "it doesn't matter if a cat is black or white so long as it catches mice"...

@sezuwupom : "JanJal is living the good life [...] Igor's delivers to your door."

You forgot to mention that I recycle and care for environment, which is why I would prefer to pick up my bakeries on my way rather than have someone on scooter deliver it wrapped in plastics. Even if it would leave the plastic maker and the scooter driver jobless. They could find new jobs in Just Hot, which I keep in business.

But I wish best of luck to Igor's. If location is everything, they have some catching up to do to reach out to potential customers like they are doing in this paid review..

Went here one morning after grocery shopping in nearby Walmart.

No surprise, shelves were less than half-empty like they are in all upper scale bakeries I've visited in Kunming, specifically in the mornings before lunch.

They all seem to get stocked up few hours after lunch time, which for me is too late because I like to consume my sweets at home(=office) couple of hours after lunch, without making a separate trip for it.

Thus my staple bakeries remain from big and soulless chains like Just Hot, that have their donuts ready before 11am.

They also say time is a healer, and it takes time to grow. While time does get peope killed, it also helps greatly in reproduction. Without time, we would not have gotten where we are now - nor would we get to develop into extradimensional beings bound by neither space nor time, if we ban it now.

What I propose, is that we do not ban time, but instead develop ourselves beyond time, so that we no longer depend on it, and becomes indifferent to us.

On a related but more serious note, should humanity also develop beoynd organic in our feeding patterns?

For most people, things like "organic" or "free range" has already developed past hunting wild game and gathering roots and berries. For the minority that still practises such, our current methods to grow our food must appear as strange as eating protein grown in reactors would sound to many of us.

A store we frequent for vegetables and meat is Q+Life in B1 level of TKP Shopping Mall (Beijing Lu / Baiyun Lu). My wife has bought for their green advertising, I cannot vouch either way but I'm satisfied with the quality.

Well, we are having minor thunderstorm right now. Earlier in the week my phone's weather forecast showed daily rain drops in Kunming from end of this week til end of eternity, Or was it just the two weeks ahead it can show.
