Also a note to the moderator: yes the initial question may have received adequate response. But it had turned into an ongoing discussion which was valuable to some...agreed it got off topic. But by shutting it down you punish everyone equally, not just those causing problems.

Final note — I've sent out a couple PM's already..but anyone else who shares a sincere interest in TCM feel free to PM me. Looks like having a public dialogue on this topic has been a failure for now. Thanks to those who contributed positively...

@hfcampo — would it be fair to say that you simply take herbs and that curbs your symptoms? I could get very little from your response on how specifically your treatment has led to balanced Qi. I know that it is kind of an abstract area/concept so its a bit hard. Put another way.. how do you know your Qi has been balanced? I'm not asking that in a flippant way like maybe some others would here, but rather am sincerely interested to know.

@abc really don't appreciate your condescension. Maybe saying "Qi stagnation" is a crude way of describing it, I don't know how else to say what I mean. Also I can say I'm pretty well not interested in your idea based on the way you've interacted with people on here.

@dazzer well its good you didnt then. If you have more to contribute please do. If not please refrain from arguing in a discussion others are taking seriously.

@geezer thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts. Knowing what I know about China the bit about SARS does not surprise me. Sadly. I am aware TCM is riddled with problems and potential negatives...but assume that there have seen benefits from the good practitioners if you've used them on and off over 40 years? I don't want to delve into this too far (hope to avoid rants against west med or why TCM is a joke) other than to say...I believe for certain types of chronic problems the western medical establishment is at sea. At least in the United States that is. So that leaves people like me to wander around the backwaters of TCM or other alternate treatments in search of a solution.

@tiger no problem. It appears to have stimulated the conversation which is what I've been going for all along.

@Ksmqueen - Yes please update on how that goes for you. I agree 140 rmb seems high, but sounds like you were aware of this fact going in. And like you said if it works the price will be well worth it.

I enjoyed reading the different perspectives. I think its a tough subject to discuss because its so broad, and easy to generalize. The acute vs chronic thing makes sense to me. In fact going into a tcm hospital I've wondered what they even do for things such as car accidents and gunshot wounds? It doesn't look like they are at all prepared for emergency medicine. Maybe its just where I went I dont know.

Was also unaware of the economic dynamic in play, and that TCM can generally be considered "poor peoples medicine". Bottom line for me is despite some of the pitfalls mentioned.... including a lack of hard science backing it. I am willing to give it a try because I've got chronic health problems and have run the gauntlet of western medicine already.

My specific interest isn't so much with herbal tx as it is balancing Qi. Some might dismiss this, but over the course of 6 years of medical treatment I've come to believe that my problems stem from stagnate energy(Qi). So my interest at the moment is focused on things like acupuncture and moxibustion. Or really anything that might effect the body's electromagnetic energy.

@HFCAMPO think your post mentioned something about Qi balancing, so I guess you share my belief to some extent. How did you achieve this? What specifically did your doctor do that makes you say that? I am also reading a text right now about Qigong but am finding it confusing and a little bit inaccessible. Thoughts anyone?

Anyone seen the "Zoology water closet" by Dian Chi? Some sort of utility building..but the sign makes me curious about whats really inside

Not Kunming specific but an interesting article nonetheless.

Not to get self righteous. But its pretty disgusting what humans do to their environment... And China is certainly at the forefront of that destruction.

At whatever point a city starts drawing Kathmandu comparisons its not good. Certainly seems whoever is calling the shots around here, is hell bent on ruining a place that used to be nice.

Previous poster has it right, this is one of the best bakeries in Asia, let alone in China.

Whoever runs the place clearly knows what they are doing. Staff is really well trained, friendly and the place is extremely clean. I ate here multiple times, everything I had was excellent. The sandwiches in particular are good.

Maybe if I'm at home I dont give 5 stars...but after months of suffering through Chinese food or overpaying for really bad western food. This place is a dream come true.

Funny that educated man's negative review seems to have been completely drowned out by positive reviews. And a response from the employee he called out.

I stayed at LG awhile back. No complaints. For the price you pay the accommodation is good value. The staff all provided good service in my experience.

Duly noted by everyone the pizza is good. In fact every meal I had was pretty good, minus one salad. Nowhere is perfect. Compared to what else is on offer in Kunming, its hard to beat. Will be back for the food.

Don't really understand all the negative reviews. Maybe things have changed, maybe I got lucky with what I ordered. I dont know.

I'll preface this by saying I've had great Indian food in India, and in the states. Think the meal I had here was fairly respectable. It wasn't great, but it was recognizable as Indian food and the Lassi was good.

It wasn't cheap but the price wasn't too high. Not bad considering there wasn't a south Asian in sight. Also not bad when you glance next door to the Chinese restaurant and see whats being served looks like some type of animal abortion.

Eaten here a couple times. Found it to be pretty decent. Prices not too unreasonable, particularly their lunch menu. Sandwiches above average by Asian standards, so relatively speaking good. Manager seemed to care if I enjoyed the food, which, is the main reason I bothered to write this review. I've become so used to indifference it threw me off a little.
