Forums > Living in Kunming > Air Quality!!! Kunming Not So Good.

Well, the reason I mentioned I was from a rather clean country was for the fact that it is all relative. For me it`s quite shitty.

For the people who have lived in Beijing and then moves here, they think it`s nice and fresh (the ones i have spoken to anyway).

Kunming is a big city in European terms, so living in such a city, I guess some pollution is just the way it is.

Also, one of the reasons I feel the impact of the pollution so much is for the fact that I`m riding my bike daily. I live on the outskirts of the downtown area (45-60 mins.bike ride).

There are certainly worse places around China and elsewhere on the globe, but there are most certainly better places as well.

btw, I`m from a small city in Northern Europe.

There are probably some areas which are better than others, but in my humble opinion, its terrible all over the place.

I come from a rather clean country and the dust and shit that floats around in this place has become unbearable to me.

Unless you really know bikes really well, I would advise you to not buy second hand bikes, especially Chinese brands. It seems like Chinese bikes are shitty even though they are new.

Also, if you buy from anyone, remember to bargain like a merchant from India.

If you need a bike for everyday use for a long period of time, you should buy a Giant or something like that. It will be a lot pricier, but you will have something that won`t fall apart right away.

Buying a bike is one of the most frustrating things I've done in this city, but in the end it is also one of the best things I've done.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Why so many foreigners next to Guang Fu Lu ?

Thanks for all the answers :)

I was kind of guessing they were among gods army, but somehow I thought it wasn't possible or not happening here in China.

Although I`m not very fond of people pushing their beliefs on others and the fact that I`m not a Jesus freak myself, I don`t hate people who believes in what I would refer to as strange stuff. Helping people who got their limbs blown away can`t be too bad.

Howdy fellow Gokunming users :)

After living in Kunming for a while, there are some questions which are still unanswered.
For instance, in the south of Kunming where the international school and the Wicker Basket is located, there are a shitload of white dudes. I have also noticed that some of these dudes have a small army of children with them.

I was wondering if people living in this area are there because there are so many other foreigners there, so that the population of foreigners are just expanding because of this.

I guess that dudes with kids need to stay close to the international school, but what is the main reason for them to move to a city like Kunming?

This is not a very serious issue, but I`m curious about this little area far away with so many foreigners.

Hope that people living in this area and other clever dudes living in Kunming can explain this to me.

Only been to the one south in Kunming, which is close to the international school.

Staff are very friendly and they have some western food stuff for sale, such as cheese, bbq sauce and pasta etc.
My favorite is the salad bar, which might be one of the best deals when it comes to food in Kunming.

Food never arrives on the same time and the bread, although it`s better than Bread Works, Rambo Bread and Carrefour, it`s not really good. Back home in the old country, no one would eat it. Here in Kunming it can be a decent back up for bread craving dudes like myself.

Overall a nice place to go for food and if it wasn't for the salad bar I would give it 3 stars as the food isn't all that.

On a sunny day, the upstairs balcony is a nice place to smoke while waiting for the food.

Been here a couple of times and I really like this place. It`s a cozy "hippie" place with good bread, decent pizza and yummy yogurt. Prices are OK for some stuff, but I think some stuff is just too expensive. I Like it tho and would recommend it.
