In my first post i never meant to imply china is perfect as i think every country or where ever we choose to live has plus and minuses. I am of the age where myself and many of my friends got caught up in company downsizing in the usa. I was working a lousy job but could not afford to retire in the usa. I came to china and right now am getting much more from this country than i am giving back. Example i went to hospital last week for a kidney stone. Total cost 150 usd. Last kidney stone in usa 6 years ago cost me 6,000 usd after figuring my insurance payments and deductable. Right now china is a good place for me to be.
tigertiger, thank you for pointing out my error. It is so easy to forget that the actions of a minority few can often cloud our feelings for an entire people.
lautou, thank you for those profound words. Just like the Japanese have suppressed what they did to the chinese, most younger chinese have no idea what an important part the USA played in driving the japanese out of China. Also i do not understand how the Muslims as a religion can spew such hatred. How they want to eradicate the entire american people because a few idiots make a horrible movie that most people would never consider watching.
the point i was trying to make is what good can come from us attaching our chinese hosts right now. Many already think us americans are arrogant and pushy, and i just feel it is a good time to be careful what we say until this situation cools down a little. Maybe i have been lucky to have been treated so well here, but i am hopeful that does not change.
Just think this is a good place to live and was nicely trying to tell assholes to shut up. There is a place and time to express opinions but this is not one of those times. I have a wonderful wife here and i do not want to have to leave her behind. If anyone has a problem with me feeling this way go screw yourself.
Great western dinner at a reasonable price. The salad bar is a wonderful bonus if you order a dinner meal. I like to get their early just after 5, then salad bar is especially fresh and full of all the selections. Staff are my favorite in Kunming. They are friendly and attentive, but not over bearing. Give you menu and then give you time to make a selection.
Recently i wrote a review that after eating beef burritos at Salvadors i ended up with a bad stomach ache and the last time a case of severe diarrhea. It was commented later that maybe the sour cream was a factor, and that may be true. My only dairy is milk in my coffee and i have noticed i sometimes end up with a stomach ache after drinking 2-3 cups in the morning. I make my own sour cream for tacos i make at home and will have to pay more attention to how that affects me in the future.
Metro has many things i cannot find other places, but i still find it a frustrating place to shop sometimes. Seem to frequently be out of things. For example their was very little fresh meat to choose from and actually they were out of many things and i was their just after lunch. They had no loaves of toasting bread and could not tell my wife when they would be getting more in. In looking at the fresh date on Hormel ham it had expired in September. However for first time i was able to shop all the aisles. Not filled with merchandise to be stocked or fork lifts.
To all those expecting an authentic Irish Pub come on we are after all living in China. I have eaten there several times and the burger is still the best in Kunming in my opinion. Staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. Place is not perfect but what is in CHina. Owners have been wonderful in opening up early for special events like the US Super Bowl.
Went for Pizza special tonight. Had the Barbeque chicken and it was very good. Also enjoyed an exceptionally large order of French Fries. Everything was good tonight and owners where not there.
