I don't understand where this story is coming from. The building plans for the castle have been cancelled because they didn't get approval to build it. Anyway the place is still a swamp and even with approval it would take years to build. So don't hold your breath.
All business related to motorbikes is concentrated at a compound at Jinma road (金马路) just east of the second ring road. If you dont find it there you will not find it anywhere in Kunming.
New motorbikes are no longer registered in Kunming and this has killed off the motorbike trade. Only bikes that already have a registration in Kunming, thus second hand, are sold. This mainly happens at Qianxing road (前兴路)

Both Walmart and Carrefour have cheap tents. Not heavy duty stuff but will do the job. Not they are for the Chinese market so rather short.
Camping Chinese:
All new equipment with all unnecessary gadgets.
Wear facemasks and fingerless gloves.
Spend two hours to put up their tent.
Place their tents all on top of each other.
Ones tent stands they change in to either: slippers with big flowers on them, fluffy animal slippers or high-heels.
Use enormous inflatable mattresses.
Spend an other two hours to take their tent down again.
Leave camping ground as disaster zone.

New taxi placards target 'civility'
Posted byWith the limited amount of taxis in Kunming it is quite possible to make a living during non-rush-hour hours. I several times spend travel times exceeding at least twice the normal time during rush-hours. This means that more trips can be done during non-rush-hours thus the hourly income is higher (And the frustration lower) than during rush-hours. To remedy this a rush-hour surcharge could be introduced but then everybody would be complaining that things are to expensive.

Landslide closes Tiger Leaping Gorge to traffic
Posted byThis is the parking place of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Looks like it happened at night because during the day this parking is full of cars and busses. The road is on the left of the picture and must be closed off as well. Clearing this will take some time because one cannot push the debris just over the edge because there is the Tiger Leaping Gorge itself. Might be nice to have a second big stone laying in the middle of the stream but that rock is bit too large to move in one piece.
As usual in reports in the local press the numbers are wrong. The big rock in the middle alone is 30 cubic meters (compared to the buildings in the back). The debris must be chopped up and even blasted to smaller pieces and then carted off. Pity that these horrible plaster murals on the hillside have not been destroyed.
