So indeed it is the age thing.
According to the present law no one will be able to drive after 70.
China has a lot of catch up to do with the whole age thing they are way behind in their legislation. Laws for driving are made as for chauffeurs and not for normal citizens.
Things keep on changing however. In China there are now important people getting old who want to be able to drive and there will be a push for a change in this because of that. So keep an eye out for possible changes.

I know the medicals are a bit of a joke but I know they keep the worst out. When I got my license there was a man in front of me in the cue (No privacy of course) who was as good as blind. He didn't pass despite his arguing that he only drives his 3 wheeler in the town where he lives and knows all the street there ;-)

Imported. "China Daily said smugglers bought cheap meat abroad, shipped it to Hong Kong and on to Vietnam before bringing it to the mainland. Can you imagine the transport cost and the cost of storing it 40 years."

Sorry but even if it is in the Guardian it still is not credible.

40 year old meat.
How many times have I heard this urban legend ???

Same story on this same forum 2 year ago. See:
www.gokunming.com/[...]
Referring to:

That story again goes back to the Mao years. So I can repeat my reply:

"46 years ago was 1967. China was in the middle of the Cultural Revolution and I bet you that Frozen Food facilities didn't exist in those days in the town of the story. As technicians know a frozen food warehouse will last only a couple of years and these deep frozen chicken feed would have been replaced several times to new facilities. Very unlikely."

I saw the 40 year old meat story the last couple of days in various western papers. Funny that they all disappeared again after a few days. This papers must have realised that they were publishing bull shit.

Somebody seems to be reading this blog because the horrible androids have been replaced in my elevator with a more human looking model in a for the rest same advertisement.
The website of mylike still has the androids on it. One even in a very irritating overlay but then in a mirror image.

First of all statistics in China don't mean a thing so this whole article becomes irrelevant.

In the elevator of my apartment block there is, since a few days, hanging an advertisement of Mylike aesthetic medicine which looks to be offering cosmetic surgery. On it the usual before and after pictures of two girls. As usual both are Photoshopped for maximal effect. Before a girl with a very strange shape of the face and a terrible skin condition and of course rather brown. After a scare synthetic construction with a milk white skin without a single blemish. The after shots are so Photoshopped that they become caricatures. Every time I am in the elevator I can't stop myself from looking at it because it is so hideous. Still I try to remember the name because even after the most terrible accident and with a completely burned face I still don't want to receive cosmetic surgery at this place.

@mPRin
You are mistaken there. It is not only foreigners that have the 500 kuai deposit, everybody who borrows none Chinese books has to pay this. If foreigners only wish to borrow Chinese books they pay the standard deposit.
The value of the books you borrow is not allowed to surpass your deposit. This means that I am regularly restricted in the amount of books I can borrow so I wish I could pay even a higher deposit but this is apparently not possible.
