Forums > Living in Kunming > Grounding/Earthing DJ Gear

Walter is right, ground wires are often not properly connected or not connected at all. As an electrical engineer I would recommend using a isolating transformer to cut of any connection to the ground. This way you create an isolated electrical circuit. However, for your own protection you have to use a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB)or ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) on the secondary side of your transformer. Use one with a low release current e.g. 5mA and a quick release time. Having said this, I am not too sure if that was available in Kunming.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Moving company

I used Santa Fe Relocations from Guangzhou when I moved from Germany to Kunming. To me they looked quite professional. They also did not rely on local helpers, all staff were from the company in Guangzhou. Except for a minor damage due to unprofessional packing in Germany I had no damages on the goods. They have an international Network with subsidiaries in all Asian countries. Good Luck!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Getting a new visa

Not advisable! One of my friends tried the same way and got charged with involvement in visa fraud. The result was that they were expelled from the country with a 5 year "no entry" restriction. Lucky enough no further charges were pressed. The Visa Office does know this practice and the agencies that are involved.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Do Kunming Drivers Know they are Inconsiderate and Dangerous

Making a U-Turn in a roundabout is right out ignorance. It is not lack of thought, it is the selfishness of the chinese social structure that is reflected in the traffic behavior. Any participation in the traffic, regardless if using a bicycle, a scooter, taxi or own car always means facing the danger of an accident. Here more than any other place I lived. They just don't give a shit!

Forums > Travel Yunnan > China Eastern. Why bother??

Being a regular on CZ and MU and other local airlines (between 20-30000 miles annually) I have to say I had a lot of bad experiences with all of them. Especially the ground staff of China Southern at Knuming Airport is certainly the most incompetent bunch of people I ever met! China Eastern beat them by far -on the ground! In the air China Southern has a much better service. Cancellation of Flights also happend with China Southern. They will check you in knowing that you will not catch your connecting flight. " No problem we get you a Hotel and you fly tomorrow!" Flight delays are for a good portion not caused by the airline but by the completely inefficient air traffic control. And it seems that when only limited corridors are available the smaller airlines move to the bottom of the chain. My experience last week with Kunming airline was instead of arriving in Kunming at 8pm we arrived at 3:15am. Adding up to the already hugh frustration was that Kunming Airport needed 45 minutes to bring the baggage on the belt. All in all, driving from Nanning by car does not take any longer. Flying in China is no fun, never! Show me a reasonable alternative and I will happily take it.

Kunming will not be the same without you! You were one of the first people I met when I came to Kunming and John you were my motivation and inspiration to dedust my guitar and start playing again. Thank you do much for the wonderful shows and the time we spent together. I wish you the best of luck in your new home and I am sure that we meet again. Ralf

I have taken this flight several times as it is the only direct flight to Europe from Kunming. Honestly, I am so happy and relieved that I don't have to use China Eastern any more since I left Kunming and China some months ago for another destination. Not that this incident can not happen with other airlines, but they might react more responsible. China Eastern chapter closed for once and for all.

When I first came to Kunming a little more than 3 years ago it didn't take long until I discovered the Moondog as a perfect hangout to unwind. The neighborhood atmosphere created by Joost and Fried is something that is unique and made the moondog to be a home away from home. I enjoyed every hour that I spent there, but I loved the evenings when I could play music with Joost. Thanks for your friendship, your patience when it didn't work like it should have and for the moondog. Joost, keep on rocking, rock the Netherlands and come back to Kunming. See you soon! Ralf

It is a little too far to get your backery stuff from the "best backery in China" if you are living in Kunming. ;-) Any plans to open a outlet in Kunming?
