@JJ: My apartment is quite big, I live alone in a 2-bedroom and we have lushing green areas surrounding it. Fortunately, tosas have been well adapted to small buildings for generations, since it is all there is in Japan.

@ Yuantongsi: Thanks for the list, I don't actually live in Kunming but nearby. I've seen over 70% of the breeds enlisted there living here in China, including about 20 Tosas, so far. Where I live there are plenty of parks and forests around so I'm glad I don't live in downtown Kunming.

@Geezer: since you are curious, I will tell you why.
1# I don't like dogs that bark, Tosas are one of the only breeds that does not bark.
2# Being 6'4 and enjoying sports, I'd like to have a dog bigger than a toaster.
3#They have very short hair and don't shed much which is good for my house and allergies.
4# Tosa being aggressive? You seem to have the wrong information there, friend.

I've known this breed for over 13 years and have many friends who have it and know many breeders, including 3 czech Republic breeders, where the dog is very popular.

I never heard of a Tosa attacking a human. When I was living in Nanjing, there was a golden retriever in my building that attacked children and barked at me and displayed antisocial behavior.

One of my friends had a male tosa in the USA that was very peaceful even with other dogs, he was attacked and bitten by a lab while out for a walk with his owner and even got an infected wound due to the bite.
Tosas are know to be aggressive to other dogs but never to humans. If the tosa, just like any other dog, is raised with his litter for at least 10 weeks and given the chance to socialize and learn bite inhibition from his brothers and sisters, it is a dog that is aware of his size and strength.

My father's shi-tzu display highly antisocial behavior of biting people's ankles and constant barking at people. Unlike akitas, pit bulls, chow chows, dobermans and dalmatians, Tosa Kens are not on aggressive dog lists as they have very stable behavior.

I'm going to Japan to visit my GF and on the way back will be bringing a Tosa Ken pup.

Those little fellas can get quite massive at 200 lbs, so I'd like to know what is the normal procedure here. Do I need to register it or what, anyone got a dog here?

By the way I have an agent and the documentation bringing it here is alright; I just need to know about the LOCAL laws.

Well, it's notorious that here in China there are many police officers that dislike westerners.

Just try joining a gym near xiaoximen, you will see some police roided dwarf gangs at your local gym with napoleon complexes giving you an evil eye for being stronger/taller than them.

Those idiots (when in a group) are famous for giving foreign fellas the evil eye.
Rejoice, next time you are having fun at wenling jie or kundu and an unrelated violence thing breaks out, you will be a moving target for those dumb police officers who will fire first, no questions asked ( specially if you have a hot gf).

Nobody cares about the happiness of children, people only want to say: Chinese students are the top MATH students in the world !

Too bad general culture has been declining and seems to have adhered to what Ernest Gombrich used to call "idola quantitatis", the worship of quantities and numbers.

Great, now the guns will arrive in numbers, will be sold by policemen or stolen by criminals and then you and your family will be shot on the crossfire between policemen and criminals.
I can only imagine how happy those young (and old) policemen are to finally have guns as a macho way to compensate for their small winnies.

Just what this city needed. Now we have to walk with a bullet proof vest and pray before we leave our houses.

Mandrake, there is such a card, it can be used for the subway and bus. It is light yellow, and it as a subway and a bus drawing on it. It cost me around 30 RMB and it's rechargeable but if you can even recharge it in stores or markets. I always keep a 200 kuai balance on it.

Call before you go, I went there on thursday and there was no one in there,

I called one of the owners, and they said that they weren't going to open.

I lost my trip, I love the concept of the restaurant, No MSG and etc, but ended up having to pay for a cab ride and getting a growling stomach.

If the same thing happens to you, just go down the road until the road ends and the last 2 story restaurant across the street is very also decent. Order the sweet and sour fish and it also won't have any MSG.

No Bus to Chenggong from the airport, had to go downtown and get a 150 RMB taxi.

I mean isn't this a district of Kunming? Then why not make transportation available?

thumbs down
