word of warning- i hope you realise that none of the sites listed above will take chinese bank cards. you'll need to have visa/mastercard for sure but most likely a card registered to a UK address.

The main version of QQ fills your computer with all sorts of junk but the international one (which uses the same protocols so can connect with Chinese users) is safe but only available in English, Japanese and French (no Chinese).
Web QQ is the most safe as it runs QQ in a virtual machine inside your browser (but I believe it only has Chinese GUI).
Kunming is NOT a tropical city. Not even close (well perhaps close geographically, but not meteorologically - at 2000m above sea level the temperature is fairly mild).
thanks very much, looks nice on the web.we've booked it now.
We're going to be going to Dali next week for a few days to visit family. Been there loads of times in the past but not for a couple of years and this will be first time with a child. Can anyone recommend a nice guesthouse in the old town that is toddler-friendly?

Welcome to the new GoKunming.com!
Posted byDesktop site is looking great.
However the mobile site still doesn't work for webkit browsers such as iphone safari. I believe a lot of android phones also use webkit browsers. Text is just too small. If you could vary the font size depending on the browser that would be great. At the moment I can either view the really tiny text and strain my eyes or zoom in and have to scroll left and right to read every sentence.
Kunming takes aim at car horns - again
Posted byLimiting the use of horn doesn't really solve the problem. drivers won't really understand why they aren't allowed to use the horn and will feel the new regulations are arbitary. they need to be taught that the horn is NOT a substitute for the brake nor is reaction a substitute for anticipation.
Basically they need to learn a totally different way of driving.
Kunming addresses taxi shift change troubles
Posted byyeah, I was told once before that because that is the busiest time of the day it is preferable that neither of the 2 drivers gets it than one of them makes money instead of the other.
Of course this is nonsense as they could swap shifts at different times (before and after rush hours) on alternate days.
Kunming addresses taxi shift change troubles
Posted byI hope this works. My wife told me she saw some news interviews with drivers who said that they will simply not stop at all, pretending they didn't see people, instead of stopping and then refusing a fare.
We'll see.
